I am going to be looking for this today, but a bud of mine in Germany informed me of the following facts about the Obama speech...


1. There was a huge free concert beforehand and most of these people were there.

2. there were free "goodies" including beer being handed out.

3. it was a holiday.

4. Germans will cheer any anti-american nut. Especially when beered up.

Germans drink beer at every occassion. I was visiting a friend in K-town and we had to go to his son's school as there was a party for the Kindergarteners. The school had games for the kiddies and beer for the grown-ups. That's definitely a cultural difference from here. (God, how it'd make the school gatherings go much quicker if they sold beer here).

Well, I'd go jsut for the beer and concert, and I'm sure many germans would as well.

Of all posts though, I really do think this is pushing the envelope a little too far. Barry Obama really is popular in Europe. I could have told you that before he was even in the primaries. He is an American democrat, which would be a centrist party in most european countries, maybe even a little right-wing(just a tad though). So of course he is going to have a good base of popularity over there.

I guess you all keep missing the point; would the estimated 10,000 to 20,000 crowd even have cared had there not been the concerts, the kiosks and free beer?

There, that should be pretty clear. It is a speculation about the "presumed" adulation that perhaps it is less than what some are trying to make of it.

But hey, we all know liberals, leftists and democrats think that photo ops are more meaningful than real policy.
