6th Poll in a Year Finds Public Recognizes Liberal Tilt to Media

For the sixth time in a year, a national survey has found many more Americans see a news media bias to the left than to the right, and the latest poll released earlier this month by the Sacred Heart University Polling Institute, discovered "significantly declining percentages of Americans saying they believe all or most of media news reporting," with MSNBC (at a piddling four percent) and PBS (three percent) the least trusted for accurate reporting. Fox News, at 27 percent, was the most trusted, way ahead of second-best CNN at 14.6 percent. The Fairfield, Connecticut university's January 8 press release reported: "Just 19.6 percent of those surveyed could say they believe all or most news media reporting. This is down from 27.4 percent in 2003."

By a three-to-one margin "Americans see news media journalists and broadcasters (45.4 percent to 15.7 percent) as mostly or somewhat liberal over mostly or somewhat conservative," but for NPR and the New York Times recognition of a liberal tilt is closer to four-to-one.

That ratio for the New York Times matches a July poll by Rasmussen (see below).

Now people will be less prone to blindly accepting whatever our partisan left-wing media tells them...well, some people will...others will go on being wildly misinformed...but the rest of the news media consumer base will spot their disconnect with reality much better.

If I were looking for truly unbiased information on a subject like this, I certainly wouldn't turn to a Catholic university.

The sample was generated proportional to population contribution in all 50 states. Statistically, a sample of 800 completed telephone interviews represents a margin for error of +/-3.5% at a 95% confidence level.

I'm willing to bet that those 800 interviews were with Catholics. Perhaps you should try to come up with some legitimate unbiased sources before you wet your pants with excitement again.

Labeling someone as biased or unbiased based on their religion is bigotry, especially when the question doesn't involve religion.

Confirming what? That people think that the media has a liberal tilt? I think it's obvious that people in this country are incredibly misguided considering that we kind of live in a bubble where we rarely if ever see what's truly going on outside of that bubble. Of course, we get news about international affairs, but it goes through a filter. Forgive me if I'm cynical about a study conducted by a Catholic University and I don't take it as gospel.
