MSNBC apologizes for guest's inflammatory comment on country music | Fox News

MSNBC apologized after a guest said, "nothing says ‘let’s go kill some Muslims’ like country music."

Lemieux added, "Fresh from Lynchburg, Virginia, so he obviously doesn’t want to be a polarizing candidate, he wants to bring people together. That’s absurd."

How is this that different than what the college kids at Oklahoma did? And this is a supposed adult and senior editor at Ebony.com, not a student in college.

And yet it won't be near the story, nor will it likely result in "expelling" her from her job. No, she'll be celebrated in effect.

Double standards, folks. Double standards.

How dare different people be allowed to react in different ways to different events!!

Country music sucks

Is what she said racist?

What if the response was "Nothing says 'I've got four kids with four women and no job' like hardcore rap music?

Would that be brushed over with just an on-air apology and no consequences?

I agree, but that's not the point.
Its an expression of how a lot of islamaphobic people like to listen to country music which isn't entirely off base

Yes I agree with the premise of this thread. Country music most definitely sucks.

Well... as long as you welcome stereotyping everywhere I guess.

Since "country" is not a race, no it wasn't racist

It depends. If the speaker worked for Fox, or was Rush Limbaugh, probably not.

Much ado about nothing - who cares?

I agree, espescially since MSNBC is sinking fast anyways.

That aside, I think MSNBC's core problem is that they want to be more liberal than even CNN. As a result, they have to "drum up some fireworks" and push the edge on pretty much everything. Inevitably, this becomes problematic. A conservative network trying to exceed FOX would encounter the same difficulties.

It's always amusing to see the stereotypes people have created out on full display.

And a lot of unemployed people on welfare with mulitiple children with multiple mothers who pay no child support like to listen to rap. That's not off base either, right?

A joke at the expense of country music fans doesn't perpetuate harmful social attitudes. Doesn't get people killed like islamaphobia

Huh, and here I thought the cable news networks don't have to take one iota of responsibility for stupid things their guests and contributors say. I guess that only applies to Fox, though.

How is that different from the SAE kids? Yes, making a wisecrack about country music is the same as singing a song about hanging black people. Holy ****ing false equivalency.

stereotypes don't affect everyone equally. that much should be obvious

No, that should be across the board. Curious why MSNBC chose to apologize, though.

She did what I guess she was told to do which is make comments that drive a wedge between people. Mission accomplished.

I was making a dig at the Fox Apologist Army here that will absolve their beloved FNC for anything.

Any evidence of her being told to say that?

The words I used were "I guess" - if I had evidence I'd have said "It's a fact". English vocabulary is FUN!

So is baseless speculation, apropos of nothing.
