MSNBC's Joe Scarborough addresses "Crusades" comparison by Obama and the left [W:51]

Re: MSNBC's Joe Scarborough addresses "Crusades" comparison by Obama and the left [W:

People are charging him with not actually being Christian as he portrays. Hence why I said allegedly. I could care less, and
for one don't think that he is necessarily lying.
I just don't think he is as religiously knowledgeable as he thinks.

Just to be clear, if Wright's Church can be considered Christian, then as far as that goes he was nominally Christian for those years.
Which of course is no indication of where his ultimate sympathies lay.
No, his many lies, great & small, cover the breadth of the landscape.

Re: MSNBC's Joe Scarborough addresses "Crusades" comparison by Obama and the left [W:

The media is trying to appeal to Conservatives all of a sudden?

There's nothing but pundits on cable news. Either all of them appeal to conservatives, all of them appeal to liberals, or they'll have shows where they have fake debates between a pundit trying to appeal to conservatives and a pundit trying to appeal to liberals. This thread is about a person who tries to appeal to mainstream conservatives. Have you ever watched O'Reilly do a segment about the "war on Christmas?" And you think the media doesn't try to appeal to conservatives? Fox News wouldn't exist if the cable news made the illogical decision that they would only go after liberal viewers.

I'd actually say the news is way more liberal than conservative (major networks). NBC, ABC, CNN (probably more moderate than left), and MSNBC appeal to the liberals.

Where to begin ...
I suspect Scarborough wants to keep his job so once in a while will say something appealing to mainstream Conservatives.
Not sure what your point was about O'Reilly doing a segment about War On Christmas.
Was that supposed to show the media appeal to Conservatives?
A better example would have been MSNBC doing the same segment with the same point of view.
FOX NEWS exists and is so popular because they are unique. If there was only one alternative to FOX the ratings for both would more closely resemble the DEM/PUB Party split.

I don't think any hyper-partisan individual spends a lot of time watching NBC, ABC or CNN. They watch Fox or MSNBC, and far more liberals read websites like the Huffington Post than watch MSNBC. The point is that it's insulting to call Fox and MSNBC "news." Those shows are theater for the partisan. This relates to my original point, which is that when you get a sound clip of Obama saying that hundreds of years ago, people killed and tortured in the name of Christ, the real message is completely lost. The message that is inserted is "see? Remember reverend Wright? Remember that Obama is a secret Muslim? Here's more proof he hates Christianity!" Does Joe Scorborough believe it? I don't know, but I do know that he thinks his viewers will believe it, or that he will create a sound bite and talking point that will be echoed far and wide in ultra-partisan country.

As for me, I don't care - not even a little bit - about his comments. He made some sound and completely trite comments about how all religion can be used as a tool for good or evil, but we musn't throw the baby out with the bath water. To me, I've heard it too many times for it to be news.

My point is that "The war on Christmas" isn't a story. Everybody celebrates Christmas. It's a manufactured story to make conservatives feel like their way of life is being attacked by Democrats, which makes them angry and it makes them keep watching. MSNBC doesn't do that story because they exist to appeal to liberals who feel that the Republican party is trying to prevent progress while endorsing war and denying equality based on race, sexual orientation, and gender. It's the fault of the American people that we allow this. We watch it, buy into it, get riled up over it. But it's theater. It's a joke.

Fox exists because they came up with the idea to create a fake news network that would give 24/7 coverage to issues based on, or spun to imply, that the political environment in America is hostile to the traditional Christian way of life their viewers remember growing up when they were watching Leave it to Beaver.

Well you make some great points and I will not try and debate them.

That's good, because I don't want to debate them either. We're all entitled to our opinions, I just don't like the idea of cable news telling us what to think. Americans are smarter than that, but we also have this constant desire to conform so that we fit in. I do the same thing, just not with politics. I grew up around too many rich liberals who I hated to stomach that brand of partisanship any longer.

I hear that. I'm trying to be fair to all opinions.

Joe Scarborough was a conservative when he was a Republican Congressman. How do you figure he's trying to appeal to "mainstream conservatives" (what makes one mainstream conservative, BTW)?

And when you say "There's nothing but pundits on cable news", as opposed to what?

Re: MSNBC's Joe Scarborough addresses "Crusades" comparison by Obama and the left [W:

You claimed that it is a myth that conservatives believe that Obama hates Christianity. You also said that you wanted somebody to explain why somebody would defend his remarks about the crusades. I explained that the outrage is part of a media device used to further a narrative that has been proven to appeal to partisan conservatives. I responded to everything else you said with examples. Don't ask people for thoughtful posts if you're going to ignore them.

And which universe did that take place in?

You "explained" answers dick, you post opinions usually defective, I have seen no citations from you...and little coherency

Wow... Comments like that really leave me scratching my head, because I can't figure out whether you really believe that Murdock set out to create a "fake" news network, or your engaging in dishonest political bluster derived from partisanship and hatred.

What Fox set out to do, and managed to accomplish, was to create a 24/7 cable news network that would fill a void that had existed since the advent of network news and cable Television. They put together a top notch, credible news division of seasoned veterans, led by 23 year ABC News veteran Brit Hume to cover all the hard news, not just what the big 3 and CNN deemed newsworthy. Then, instead of filling their other time slots with panel discussions and political opinion shows that catered almost exclusively to the liberal perspective like CNN and MSNBC, they chose to go the other direction and be the first to cater to the conservative majority in America, rather the liberal minority like everyone else. It was a very sound business decision that has paid dividends.

I find it petty and juvenile how the left relentlessly attacks an insults Fox News because they don't march in lock-step with their political agenda like the other 7 to 10 network news and cable news outlets do. Their desperation to discredit and ultimately silence Fox is a testament to the threat that Fox poses to them and shows just how dedicated they are to preventing the American people from getting both sides of the story.

The truth is, it's the decades of liberal bias that dominated the main stream news media in America that created Fox News. Their bias created the void that was necessary for Fox News to come into being.

And this liberal bias and frequent misrepresentation over the years has resulted in the sort of comments you just quoted.
