When in the 25-54 key demo, the star of your network (Rachel Maddow) is only pulling in half the ratings of CNN, and only a quarter that of Fox, it's inevitable that heads are going to roll.

I have to wonder though, just as the writer of the article did, when is MSNBC going to wake up and realize that liberals spewing hate just isn't appealing to the general public and their attempt at being the "Air America" of cable TV has failed just as miserably as Air America did?

Report: MSNBC’s Hayes, Farrow and Reid On Chopping Block

Considering a number of their shows are unwatchable — here’s looking at you Chris Hayes and Joy Reid — it’s painfully obvious that MSNBC’s lineup is in need of a serious makeover.

According to TheWrap, Hayes’ crappy ratings are even bringing down those of his TV mentor, Rachel Maddow. Let’s just say Hayes as a lead-in is less than inspiring. His innate preachiness even less so.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin is on the verge of making serious changes to daytime and primetime programs. Those reportedly in trouble include Hayes, who could see his 8 p.m. time slot nixed, Ronan Farrow (whose show is actually fun to hate watch), and the aforementioned Reid.
“’Ronan [Farrow] and Joy [Reid] — something has to change there,’” another insider told TheWrap, adding that many within MSNBC believe one of the two — Farrow at 1 p.m. Reid at 2 p.m. — will see their shows canceled soon. The duo, who debuted on Feb. 24, 2014, have been major contributors to MSNBC’s daytime woes.”

People on the left don't want a leftwing Fox News clone. To be popular they need to think more NPR and less Fox.

i haven't watched in a while (for good reason,) but last time i did, it was a bunch of hacks hacking away, followed by ten hours of Celebrity Prison Sex. at least Olbermann isn't on there any more calling for the president to resign every single night. the only good show they ever had was Dr. Nancy, who was great at swatting down anti vax nutters. they cancelled her show, of course.

MSNBC isn't even as good of a commercial for the Democrats as Fox is for the Republicans. if you can't even run a joke "news" network as well as Fox, you might as well just hang it up. ****, even Comedy Central does a better job.

The only show I watch on there is Up with Steve Kornacki on the weekends.

It isn't only their night time line-up that's getting creamed, it's their day time shows also. Fox focuses mainly on news during the day and political opinion at night.

It's comical how lefties insist that MSNBC is the same as Fox just because they're on opposite political sides in primetime.

Fox puts forth people like Bret Baier, Brit Hume, Charles Krauthammer, and others of that ilk. They're legitimate, and they leave the far right stuff to Hannity and O'Reilly at night.

MSNBC does nothing of the sort. They're an endless run of far-left Bill O'Reilly countertypes all day long, unless they're running prison reality shows. There's never a legitimate counterpoint to anything.

Al Sharpton has a primetime show on a supposed news outlet, for crying out loud. That's like giving a show to OJ Simpson or Charles Manson.

Meh. Liberals get bored hearing talking points repeated. They tend to already know what they believe without tuning in to confirmation bias news networks.

what's that one like?

It's very good. It's a 2 hour show done on Sat and Sunday. They really get into the weeds about policies, issues, and politics. When a story is regional, say during Mitch McConnell's re-election race, they'll bring on a lot of reporters from Kentucky that can give you a lot more in depth coverage. When it's national issues, it will tend have national correspondence but it's not some partisan scream fest. I would liken it to the Sunday shows on major networks but a lot "smarter" since it deals with a lot more substance of the issues.

I wouldn't know what MSNBC has on during the day. I didn't even know they had news shows. Not making a value judgement, but there's no doubt Fox news benefits from having an average viewership age of around 65. They have all day to watch news.

What does that have to do with this topic? This is specifically about the 25-54 demo, not 55+.

MSNBC if they are serious about revamping and climbing up from the dregs of the barrel should think about removing race baiter extraordinaire Sharpton. Frankly only a few programs would survive I'd expect and the rest of their lineup could be more of a middle-road fact based programming which I would definitely check out. Right now - only program I can stomach is Morning Joe - and lately the amount of puff pieces have me skipping around more in the mornings.

I agree... Morning Joe is the only show that even resembles a balanced perspective, but even he is very out numbered. I watched a clip yesterday or the day before, where they were having a discussion and he commented that he was surrounded by 6 liberals.

Because Fox News trends much closer to 54 than it does 25.

I used to watch MSNBC exclusively and didn't make the switch to Fox until age 36. It wasn't age that was responsible for switching, it was the fact that I'm a creature of habbit and never tuned into Fox News until September 11, 2001. Within a few weeks after comparing the 2, Fox became my primary cable news choice. Politics didn't even play a role in that decision, because back then, it had yet to become a big deal to me.

Chris Hayes is about as annoying as anyone I've ever seen on the air. No surprise that Maddow is failing too. She's smart but snarky. I never saw Farrow or Reid.

As long as my buddy the good Reverend Al keeps his show!

I love his show, but often wonder why he doesn't haul off and punch Mika. That woman is absolutely irritating. She cackles, laughs like a hyena, and contributes nothing. Joe has been standing up to all of those Liberals lately. Last week he bitch slapped Eugene Robinson & Sam Stein, 2 absolute clowns.

I catch Steve's show whenever I can. I think he's actually pretty good and was particularly impressed with the show's election season coverage.

I disagree. The only people watching MSNBC are the far left. If it weren't for people listening to liberal hate speech, MSNBC wouldn't exist. It's obviously not the righties.

I missed him saying that! I was laughing too hard at him shutting those idiots down. I watched it live (I seldom miss his show) and was thinking OMG, he interrupted them - Eugene's gonna be pissed. Actually some of the regular Liberals on there agree with him on some issues. I'm always surprised when I'm on the same side of the fence as Donny Deutsch, Ed Rendell, and some others. I can always count on being on the opposite side from that simpleton Howard Dean and that little sniveling Steve Rattner, who I believe was on the set on the day of the bitch slapping. He HATES it when Joe criticizes Obama.

I think Maddow and Hayes are one in the same. Keeping costs down, ya know.

Not surprising. MSNBC sucks. That kind of bull**** programming might work for the rightwing minded people, but the center, center/left, center/right folks, like me, would rather watch the grass grow.

I can't remember the last time I spent more than 30 seconds watching MSNBC or FOXNews.

Does MSNBC need more eye candy to compete with the more "intellectual" networks?
