I just watched the CBS evening news from last night and couldn't believe that Chip Reid would mention the democrats ad blaming republican cuts for the lack of an Ebola vaccine, and fail to mention that the claim in that ad was found to be totally false:

“One independent liberal group released an ad criticizing Republicans for cutting spending that they say could have led to an Ebola vaccination. Scott, that ad is titled “Republican Cuts Kill," which shows just how tough the political battle over Ebola has come.”

For those of you that have forgotten, back on the 16th the Washington Post fact-checker gave that ad the maximum 4 Pinocchios:

On many levels, this line of attack is absurd.

Obama’s Republican predecessor oversaw big increases in public-health sector spending, and both Democrats and Republicans in recent years have broadly supported efforts to rein in federal spending. Sequestration resulted from a bipartisan agreement. In some years, Congress has allocated more money for NIH and CDC than the Obama administration requested. Meanwhile, contrary to the suggestion of the DCCC ad, there never was a specific vote on funding to prevent Ebola.

There’s no doubt that spending has been cut, or at least failed to keep pace with inflation, but the fingerprints of both parties are on the knives. This blame game earns Four Pinocchios.

It's no wonder that so many people refer to their newscast as the "See-BS" Evening News.

It's all Sharyl's fault!

Stating what is going on does not mean they are implying it is a valid argument. It means they are stating what is going on. It is not their job to go to bat for Republicans. I doubt you'd care if it's been some kind of equally loony GOP ad, and they didn't defend the Dems.

And at any rate, that claim should be self-evidently ridiculous on its face to anyone with a pulse. Election season politics as usual.

A national news network should not perpetuate lies about any party period... Of course we all know the party that always ends up getting the short end of the stick when the do... which this thread demonstrates.
