Fox's Shepard Smith Blasts Media For "Hysterical," "Irresponsible" Ebola Coverage

Re: Fox's Shepard Smith Blasts Media For "Hysterical," "Irresponsible" Ebola Coverage

There is a perfectly good reason for having a surgeon general. For times like these. Not only could this person take control over a situation which I'm sure Obama has very little knowledge of, but he could also advise the president. It would be a huge benefit to have someone such as a Surgeon General to address the public on this matter to possibly calm any fears.

You wanna blame someone for their incompetence, try blaming the conservatives for blocking Obama's Surgeon General appointments.

You do realize that businesses don't shut down when they are in between CEOs I assume?

The Surgeon General isn't a 1-man office. The Surgeon General is part of HHS too, which has been operational I believe?

The last Surgeon General who left office in 2013 was far more involved in the really important national issues such as breastfeeding.

I think you guys need to do a little research on the role of the Surgeon General, the role of HHS, and the role of the entire division run by the Surgeon General before you believe and repeat the tired talking points that somehow this is all the conservatives' fault.

Re: Fox's Shepard Smith Blasts Media For "Hysterical," "Irresponsible" Ebola Coverage

The media should not be reporting on ebola.

Re: Fox's Shepard Smith Blasts Media For "Hysterical," "Irresponsible" Ebola Coverage

JFC man... This isn't about the GOP... This isn't about Boehner... This isn't about George Bush... And it damned sure isn't about the NRA.

Do you think every once in a while you could turn the partisan hatred off and stick to the actual topic?

But it is about Obama, right?:lamo

What we are getting her is that people LOVE the Fox NEWS guys...but hate the Fox Opinion program guys?

Well...that explains why so many people watch Fox News. A lot of democrats love Shep Smith.

Obama has his ideology, and he doesn't waiver from it. He doesn't even listen to the people in his own administration, they listen to him.
A SG would be good to have, but he would just be a mouthpiece of Obama regarding this situation with ebola

Shep Smith is one of my favorite hosts to watch midday, but he's so transparent when talking about how 'Ebola hysteria' is ruining the stock market and his portfolio is getting hammered. Talk about self interests.

Bush was blamed for everything....he was the president.
Now, it's Obama's turn, it's the way politics works.

My story is straight.

CalGun... you're avoiding the question. Is ebola a threat or not?

Yeah, but I think blaming Obama for the Black Plague, the sinking of the Titanic, and World War I is going too far.

Yeah, yeah....it was completely different with Bush, huh? You guys blamed him for a hurricane, sinking of the Titanic, and WWI and WWII. :lamo

I know for a fact Obama didn't have anything to do with WWI. On the other two, just because there's no evidence that he did have a hand in them doesn't mean that he didn't. We just don't know. He may have also played a significant role in The Masque of the Red Death, but that remains to be seen as well.

No, we didn't blame him for the hurricane. Just for the piss poor response and the ludicrous 'Brownie, you're doing a great job!' comment to his FEMA director when it was obvious to everybody that he wasn't. Also there's that thing about ignoring the warnings on 9/11 and misleading us into Iraq - the consequences of which we will be dealing with for the next 50 years - but lets not get into that now.

Rewriting history?

Do President Bush and so-called “global warming” have anything to do with the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Katrina?
Yes, according to some politicians and public figures, who are already politicizing the disaster.

Among them is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a lawyer and environmentalist

Robert Kennedy Jr., attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, blamed President’s Bush’s failure to sign the Kyoto Treaty for the damage done by Hurricane Katrina.
Semi-News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Blames Bush for Hurricane

In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a host of leftists in the politica arena, the media, and the entertainment industry asserted that the storm had been caused and/or exacerbated by the “global warming” spawned by U.S. industrial activities -- coupled with the allegedly irresponsible environmental policies of President George W. Bush and his administration.

9-11 wasn't any politicians fault, yes, there were red flags but no dots could be connected with the lousy intel (which was put into place by the Clinton administration). No dates, no airports, no times. We couldn't just stop all flights for the next few years, right? So get off of the blaming Bush brigade.

A concern, but the video is correct. The panic expressed by the networks, Fox being one, is exaggerated and not good for anyone. Being honest and keeping proper perspective is what we should expect out of professionals. Not this maddening fear mongering we see.

Re: Fox's Shepard Smith Blasts Media For "Hysterical," "Irresponsible" Ebola Coverage

According to some posters here all Media Matters wants to do is silence Fox News and put them out of business. They say Media Matters lies all the time. Please watch snd listen to Shepard Smith's responsible reporting in the video at link below.

As much as I can tell, Smith is a light left libertarian. The guy who always had on Judge Napolitano. He isn't as bad as other libertarians but some of Napolitano's viewpoints have rubbed off on the news anchor over the years. Otherwise, he is one of the more liberal people at Fox. However, I agree wholeheartedly with what he said here... Good for him to break away from the chaos, because the left and the right are doing it now.

Re: Fox's Shepard Smith Blasts Media For "Hysterical," "Irresponsible" Ebola Coverage

Ebola is a clear example of medias bias to direct, instant and easily described threaths, with perscieved cheap solutions (closing boarders from affected countries). While both in my country and is its seems USA report less about bigger but indirect, longterm and harder explained threath that are a bit costly to fix like the need to spend money on fighting Ebola in Africa.

That the real threath is the growth of Ebola in Africa. Because if the growth countinue in the same way more and more countries will be affected and fighting Ebola will become more and more costly and hard. This will affect western countries too that even if we will be able to contain it on our countries, we will have some Ebola infected coming to our countries and infect some people (even if we close the boardes to affected countries their will be people getting in illegally or people getting secondary infection in a country deemed safe).

Also it will lead to more instabiliy, poverty and war in Africa. Either we care about that and have to pay more money in aid and even send troops to Africa. Or we don't care and it can lead to longterm threaths from terrorism and criminal activities.

This is of course influence political decision making. My small country Sweden is the fifth biggest in total and biggest per capita in giving aid to fight Ebola in Africa. But we only spend less then 50 million dollars on the fight against Ebola.
