Wage Against the Machine - The Daily Show - Video Clip | Comedy Central

I'll let Peter Schiff's commentary handle this.

Daily Bell: You had an appearance on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart a while ago that stirred some controversy. Tell us about it.

Peter Schiff: The way they edited it out – they interviewed me for over four hours to condense it down to a few minutes of trying to make me look bad because I want to abolish the minimum wage. Of course, I want to abolish the minimum wage because I care about people, I care about jobs, I care about young people in particular and minorities. I want to make sure that they can get jobs, they can get on-the-job training, that they acquire additional skills that would enable them to earn higher wages in the future and I want them to be able to step on the job ladder so that they can climb up and go to higher and higher rungs. The biggest job killer is the minimum wage law.

But the woman who interviewed me from “The Daily Show,” one of the things she mentioned in that four-hour interview was that she was a socialist, a Marxist. Of course, they didn’t show any of that but I had her admit that she was basically a communist. So people at “The Daily Show” buy into this nonsense. They don’t believe in the free-market system. They believe in government. They believe in the system that destroyed the Soviet Union. But they don’t think with their heads because they don’t really have much up there. They think with their hearts. So they tried to present me in a sinister light by taking a lot of things out of context and they actually had to piece that segment together kind of like Frankenstein made his monster, because they actually would show them asking questions and then the answers that I gave were not even to the questions that they were asking then. They were to questions that were asked at different parts of the show. So they would take the same question they asked me in, say, the third hour of the interview, and they would take a part of the answer that I gave in the first ten minutes, and another part from the next 40 minutes – so they would basically take fragments from various sentences that happened in different parts of the interview and put them together to make one sentence as if I was expressing one complete thought. So the whole idea was to try to rearrange my words and try to make me look as bad as possible.

Schiff offers much more commentary, which shows how much this interview was doctored for the show.

I get that political shows are biased, truly I do, but that is hands-down the most outlandish and stupid excuse I've ever heard for a bad interview. You ****ed up, dude. You said some stupid ****. Own up to it and move on.

It's not like the Daily Show, historically, has purposefully put opposing viewpoints in a bad light. Jon Stewart gave Ron Paul a ****load of free air-time in 2012. He plugged RP almost every show and had nothing but good things to say. He also has various other Republicans and even Libertarians/Greens on his show and he gives them decent, albeit silly (it is a comedy show), interviews where they are given the chance to say their piece. So with all that being said, Schiff's track record up against TDS's, I think he's full of ****.

I think Bill O'Reilly's appearances are a fair indicator of how he treats opposing views. They are actually pretty entertaining.

So when they spin his view on the mentally disabled working below minimum wage as him saying that they are worth, as a human being, as much as they wage they can garner, that's fair? That's ridiculous. You get a far different perspective of his view, which you are free to disagree with but at least is not spun as hating the poor, if you read his full length interview. And don't you find it curious that they won't put up the full interview? What good reason is there to not do so other than it would expose the slander they performed?

The full interview was like 4 hours...why the hell would they broadcast a 4 hour interview?

Re: Peter Schiff on Jon Stewart

Well that was substantive.

Far more so than that nonsense you posted. The guy obviously got emarrassed by a comedian and got butthurt. So what does he do? Typical right wing "he's a commie" BS. McCarthy would be proud.

Whether true or not, whatever, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were.

If you are a right wing loon and you go on a left wing comedian's show without doing your homework, you will likely get your ass handed to you.

Who said broadcast? All they have to do is post it online.

So embarrassed that he would hate to see the full interview released. Oh wait that's the other way around!

I'm betting there isn't one.

Re: Peter Schiff on Jon Stewart

I like the Daily Show but the interview bits have always been a hack job. It amazes me people agree to do them when they are obviously going to get edited into oblivion and look like complete morons. Anyone that has ever watched the show knows what happens in those "interviews". I've always assumed it was a consensual joke that the opponent knew they were going to get skewered for fun and to be on tv but... maybe these people are just ****ing idiots? Peter Schiff... why would you do this to yourself?

Anyone that takes these bits seriously needs to purchase a bs detector, send payment to me in PM with your address and I'll have one sent to you 2 day Amazon Prime.

Re: Peter Schiff on Jon Stewart

Schiff, of course, is the kind of financial kook you find on the rightwing airwaves. He's an austrian school, hyper-libertarian gold standard type, which means his economic analysis is pure hokum and easy pickings for Stewart. It's hilarious that the slow-witted Schiff thought he could take on Stewart and prevail, but it's a pattern among at conservatives that they think they're clever and can take on a professional like Stewart. Remember what happened to Tucker Carlson? Devastating.

Clearly Schiff made the same mistake and has egg on his face, so he made up a story about how witty and cogent he really was before Stewart edited him. What nonsense.

By the way, nice touch that Schiff went crying to Lew Rockwell's website, another conservative kook who is a neo-confederate who claims Lincoln was a tyrant for being mean to the poor put-upon Southern slaveholders.

It really isn't that hard to make these guys look like fools because they are laughable even without a professional comic to make fun of them.

Are you having a tough time in high school?

Re: Peter Schiff on Jon Stewart

You'll be posting a link soon then? I'll hold my breath.

Ask The Daily Show to post it. They refuse.

Re: Peter Schiff on Jon Stewart

No, me and my HS buddies watch Stewart's interviews with guys like Schiff and laugh all the time. Don't you wish you were young and happy like me.

But you seem upset about poor Schiff. I understand.

I have to disagree with you there.

There are two, VERY different types of interviews on the Daily Show. The 'live' ones and the taped ones.

The live ones are usually not too bad...other then Stewart trying to get laughs from the audience. And sometimes he is really good. But at least the interviews are not (to my knowledge) doctored.

The taped ones can be astronomically terrible in that they often massively alter the interview to suit their agenda. I have heard/read of numerous guests complaining that their interviews were skewed out of context.
I don't even bother watching the Daily Show anymore once Jon Stewart's part is over.

As for Peter Schiff, he should have known better. He claimed on his radio show before doing the interview that he was well aware of what the Daily Show does to taped interviews...yet he did it anyway.

He knowingly put his head in the lion's mouth, he is at least partially to blame for having the lion bite him.

Prove it.

I'm not interested in a debate over pride rather than fact. Good luck to you in all your future endeavors.
