Anyone watch Stossel?

As someone that is neither Republican or Democrat, leaning more libertain (small l), I find his show refreshing.

Many of my Democrat friends believe I am a Republican because of my econoimc bias towards Austrian economics.
Many of my Republican friends believe I am a Democrat because of my laissez faire bias on social issues.

I recently saw an episode of Stossel on Conservatives vs. Libertarians - I shared it with many of my Democrat friends, many of them were surprised and I think some of them are Libertarians and didn't even know it.

There are some great episodes...

Isn't Stossel the same guy who goes on a rant about law suits and people who file them while he collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from a wrestling company for basically being bitch slapped across the face?

That's right I forgot all about that. I think Stossel confronted the wrestler about it being staged so the guy smacked him in the side of the head. I believe his eardrum was ruptured. I'm also against frivolous lawsuits but that one I think was legitimate.

I'm not a regular watcher but I do on occasion (depends on the topic) watch Stossel. Usually on the website linked.

John Stossel is a twit.

This is the only John Stossel i watch

Yes the Police controls almost everything. Just like neighbors call cops when kid sets up lemonade stand.

I don't agree with everything he says, but I like him for the most part.

When he used to only question business, he was a hero to some on the left, once he started questioning government, they irrationally abandoned him. I really like his shows and views myself.

Some quotes of his:

On why government doesn’t work: “Government almost never polices itself. When government agencies lose money, or fail at their missions, they ask Congress for more money. They usually get it, citing their failure to achieve their goals as proof that they need more funds.” (Chicago Sun Times, February 15, 2004)

• On the War on Drugs: “It’s not like the drug laws are keeping the stuff out of the country. We can’t even keep it out of prisons. How do we think we’re keeping it out of the country?” (Independent Institute, January 30, 2004)

• On the proper role of government: “We need government to do a few things like keep the peace, enforce contracts, create pollution laws. But government can never do anything as well as the private sector, so anything the market can provide effectively the government should stay out.” (WashingtonPost.com, April 9, 2004)

• On freedom versus safety: “Isn’t leaving us a choice what America’s supposed to be about? Patrick Henry didn’t say, ‘Give me absolute safety or give me death.’ It’s supposed to be about freedom.” (Independent Institute, January 30, 2004)

• On how his politics influence his reporting: “I look at the world with the awareness of the benefits of limited government and individual freedom in the back of my mind.” (WashingtonPost.com, April 9, 2004)

I've seen some of his shows and I like what he has to say.

Anyone watch Stossel? [...]
Years ago he did a good on-location show in Syria, focusing on college kids and how they didn't necessarily toe the gov't line and how this may affect politics in Syria as they matured (I think this was when Papa Assad was still in power). Of course looking at events now it seems that it didn't work out all that good for whatever reason. I thought it was insightful, important journalism compared to the hack job mainstream news usually does on the Middle East. This was probably when he was still at ABC and it was probably a 20/20 episode.

Then he pops up again lately as a right wing sensationalist hack on Fox. Oh well... I guess if you want to be on TV you have to be for sale.

Democrats have many more libertarian tendencies than do Republicans (who effectively have none, other then their thinly-veiled ideology of unshackling multi-billion-dollar corporate interests from their chains while trying to lighten the burden of oppressed multi-millionaires :lamo ).

Who said that?? So if someone punched you in the face and knocked all your teeth out because he didn't like your question, you wouldn't be entitled to at least to your dental bill? And one more thing, he's not MY guru and im not even a libertarian. Feeling froggy are ya??

400K is a hell of a lot more than just a dental bill.

Actually he stated on numerous occasions that he has come to regret suing the WWF. The lawsuit, obviously, occurred before he became a 'libertarian.' I don't agree with his new perspective. I think it is perfectly legitimate to sue over a ruptured ear drum if the guy refuses to pay the medical bill.

When did he return the money?

You sound a lot like me, politically anyway.

I watch him occasionally. Usually when I am redirected to him on twitter.

When did he return the money?

I don't know if he ever did. Not defending the guy, just giving the facts. Like I said, I think he should keep the money.

Stossel...the guy that believes in removing a large amount of regulations governing the actions of corporations while also wanting to make it very difficult to use litigation to punish corporations. This guy is a robber barons wet dream

Do you see the point here? Stossel views his own actions as perfectly legit..... as do others who file suits ..... but when they do it folks like him make it their cause celebre to trash talk about "frivolous lawsuits" and an "overly litigious" society.

Have you see the doc Hot Coffee? If ones does, one will see how corporations have managed to influenced the media/public opinion, and see how the changes to tort reform have had a very negative impact on normal law-abiding American citizens.

HOT COFFEE, a documentary feature film
