Shep Smith: The Same People Who Were Wrong About Iraq Now Want Us To Go Back (VIDEO)

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith provided some useful history on Friday about many of the same people who are now pressuring the Obama administration to take military action in Iraq, where Islamic militants have overrun two cities in recent days as they march toward Baghdad.

Smith kicked off his afternoon broadcast with a recap of the deteriorating security situation in Iraq before he offered a barely veiled commentary on the debate playing out here in the United States.

"Are we about to be drawn back into a conflict in Iraq?" Smith asked. "The same people who 12 years ago told us this will be quick, this will be easy, this will be inexpensive, they will see us as liberators, it's the right thing to do, are now telling us: It's the right thing to do. What's the endgame? Who's thought this through?"

Later in the broadcast, Smith, who's earned a reputation for occasionally bucking his employer's conservative orthodoxy, told fellow Fox News host Chris Wallace he still hasn't forgotten "being bamboozled" by the Bush administration before the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

"Well, I remember it. I think it would be wrong for us to just sit around and listen and not ask big questions," Smith said.

At the end of his interview with Wallace, Smith said he believes the media "will operate differently this time than it did the last time."

"I hope we do, hope we do," Smith said. "I hope we ask lots of questions."

President Obama on Friday did not rule out some kind of U.S. military action in Iraq, but he said there will be no American ground troops deployed there.

Right the **** on Shep. I can see Fake News firing his ass for this unfortunately. Somewhere NP is having a stroke.

Too bad for you he just signed a new contract and got a promotion... That's going to take some of the edge off of those unhinged anti-fox rants the left is so famous for.

The best thing for the USA to do in Iraq is stay far away from that place.

No matter which side wins there, we lose.

I agree. And I agree with BO when he says it's time for the Iraq's to step up and do it themselves.

I don't see any legitimate reason why the USA or any other nation's ground troops should have to go into Iraq and do what Iraq's own military has thrown down it's arms and refused to even try to do.

Have to agree. It's time that we let evolution continue the process of trying to remove these things the earth has been trying to rid itself from.

Let them continue the process all by themselves. A strategy that removes anyone who steps outside the box that makes up their land is enough.

Speaking of stroke ... how's Barry's golf scores this weekend?

I agree. And I agree with BO when he says it's time for the Iraq's to step up and do it themselves.

That's only because he does not want to attack alqueada and send the mixed message about how much he supports them, the Muslim brotherhood, and other fanatical groups in the region.

I mean, I agree, but I've held that position since about 2001, back when it would have made a difference.

However, I disagreed when Obama was pushing to get our military to support alqueada in Libya.

I think his advisors have advised him that Iraq is a par two. Here we go again. It will certainly be very profitable for the Military Industrial Complex and the Central Bankers that finance these lovely and profitable wars. Just another bone for the useless friggin' business per usual groups on Wall Street. Take another draw on that siphon straw inserted into the wallet of the poor taxpaying citizens here in the good ol' USA.

I think he's pissed he's in the Iraq bunker he thought was sodded over.

BHO is well behind the last three GOP Presidents in a lot of things bbg.
Start with vacation days, move on to executive orders, stay with numbers of wars started,
continue to percentage increase of the total accumulated debt;
hell, he's even known as the deporter-in-chief out one side and Reagan-2 on amnesty out the other side of said mouths . :peace

tell us more about that deporter in chief thing ... that's fascinating.

With all the money we spent on that "6 week" war, they could have bought all of us flying cars

I can't believe you GOPs are playing as though you don't know about the deporter-in-chief charges at Obama.
He has a record number of deportations--citation needed. :lamo

Obviously Linc is way ahead of GOP attempts to come in through the bathroom windown on splitting DEMs over deporting illegals .

I was hoping you were going to run that line.
His record number of deportations are because he's counting people turned back at the border as being deported.

On the other hand he's letting in a record number of children with their families to follow.
Why do you think he's enabling such a thing?

All right already ... I already Replied.

Shep Smith never ceases to impress me with his good common sense.
Unfortunately his reporting is the extreme exception to the narrative that all other Fux Snooze personalities subscribe to.

Shep Smith is kept at Fox because he's the one guy that Murdoch and his right wing stooges can point at to prove how 'fair and balanced' they are.:lamo
