White House Press Corp Changes

Ok how about this. What is Trump afraid of that requires him to choose who gets to ask him questions? Does that sound like a free press to you? Do you remember this....
The president has always picked who gets to ask questions.

The legitimate fear is that Trump will limit access in response to negative coverage -- akin to Obama refusing to let Fox into press briefings. That didn't happen, obviously, but if it had, you'd have heard quite a bit of caterwauling, and not just from Fox.

It (Fox News being barred) didn't happen because the caterwauling DID happen -- the bulk of the press lined up with Fox and stayed Obama's hand. Which was to their tremendous credit.

Why is Trump afraid of the press? What is he hiding? Why is this any different than Obama's "assault" on FOX News?

Why did Trump stop beating his wife? Is he afraid of the police? What is he hiding?

Why is this any different from your blather about the press?

The president has always picked who gets to ask questions.

And a President never has picked who was going to be in the room. He is trying to intimidate the press by threatening to "freeze them out" if they ask questions he does not like. And fill the room with paid staffers who boo at anything critical of Trump That is what a tyrant does. He does not want to be called out when he lies. That is what a tyrant does. At his last "press conference" he...

1. Trump refused to answer questions from reporters who have run stories he doesn’t like, or from news outlets that have criticized him.

This is a blatant attempt to control the news media by making them reluctant to run negatives stories about Trump for fear they’ll be frozen out.

2. He loaded the audience with paid staffers who cheered his statements and jeered at reporters.

Never before has a president-elect or president held a news conference larded with paid staffers designed to give the impression that the media are divided between those who support him and those who criticize him.

3. He continued calling the media “dishonest.”

This is part of Trump’s continuing effort to discredit the press and to reduce public confidence in it.

4. He condemned individual news outlets .

Trump criticized CNN for dispensing “fake news,” called BuzzFeed “a pile of garbage” and sarcastically called the BBC “another beauty.”
5. He repeatedly lied, and the media in attendance weren’t allowed to question him on his lies.

A sampling of Trump lies culled from his “news conference”:

(1) “It’s very familiar territory, news conferences, because we used to give them on an almost daily basis.”

Wrong. His last news conference was July 27.

(2) Trump claimed credit for Chrysler and Ford announcing more U.S. car production.

Wrong. Sergio Marchionne, the Fiat Chrysler chief executive, said Chrysler’s plan had been in the works for more than a year and had nothing to do with Trump. Marchionne credited the decision to talks with the UAW.

Analysts say Ford’s decision to expand in Michigan rather than Mexico had mostly to do with the company’s long-term plans to invest in electric vehicles. It’s easier for companies to find highly skilled workers to build new products, such as electric cars, in the U.S.

(3) “When we lost 22 million names and everything else that was hacked recently, [the press] didn’t make a big deal out of that.

Wrong. The Chinese hack of 22 million accounts at the Office of Personnel Management was front-page news.

(4) “The Democratic National Committee was totally open to be hacked. They did a very poor job. … And they tried to hack the Republican National Committee, and they were unable to break through.”

Wrong. FBI Director James B. Comey said there was evidence that Republican National Committee domains were also targeted, but none of the information that may have been obtained was leaked. Comey said that the Russians “got far deeper and wider into the [DNC] than the RNC,” adding that “similar techniques were used in both cases.”

(5) “I have no deals that could happen in Russia, because we’ve stayed away. And I have no loans with Russia.
Wrong. Trump repeatedly sought deals in Russia. In a 2008 speech, Donald Trump Jr. said, “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross section of a lot of our assets,” and “we see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

Robert Reich: The Lies Trump Tells to Tyrannize
Donald Trump told the truth about the media and they didn't like it.

Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't sure how that works exactly. I think the president is required to address the people. I could be wrong but isn't that the state of the union address and such. It would be nice to know for sure if someone does know. I will try to look it up as well.

The State of the Union Address is only required to be done before Congress. It is not required for the Press to be there. In fact it used to just be done via a report and the POTUS doesn't HAVE to attend. Just deliver a report, or have it delivered, to Congress. IIRC it was Wilson that started the practice of delivering it in person via a speech.

I would hope there is a similar united front against any media black-listing by the Trump administration.

How can you come to that conclusion when Trump wants to be more inclusive and give more press the opportunity to participate in the White House Briefings? It seems to me that the press corp are the ones that think some press is more equal than others.

If it is like his last "news conference" he is attempting to fill the room with paid staffers who boo the press if they dare call out his lies. He is trying to intimidate the media by threatening to freeze them out if they don't toe his line. Surely you can see that is wrong. A free press is the basis for our Republic.

I would hope so, too, if such a thing happens.

The State of the Union Address is only required to be done before Congress.

That's not required. It's only required that the President "inform" Congress, not give a speech in front of them. Early Presidents accomplished this with a letter.

The SOTU Address pageantry and spectacle is unseemly in a republic.

Wait, so you're saying there were weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq?
You're saying that our intelligence agencies aren't collecting massive amounts of information on the American people?
Because our intelligence agencies never lie to the American people right?
irrelevant to the question asked

Why did Trump stop beating his wife? Is he afraid of the police? What is he hiding?

Why is this any different from your blather about the press?

So you would agree with Obama and would have let him bar Fox news reporters from his conferences?
This is getting to be a habit of yours...agreeing with Obama.

So according to Trump, some press is more equal that others. Soon we will be hearing that white is black.

Can anyone call themselves a journalist an be in the press corps?

You are mistaking what I said. Trump may not CONTROL the press and that IS against the 1st amendment. I said nothing about whether he must speak to them. Holding a "news conference" where everyone in the room is in his pocket is controlling the press and that is what Trump is attempting to do.

One can be for the first amendment and be against how someone uses it. They can also use their freedom not to speak to someone who has abused the first amendment as slander.

Th press can do as they wish, and carry the burden of the associated integrity value they earn. CNN has become less accurate than tabloids, and you guys think Trump is wrong in this?

Fine I hope he does. It will show the people who he really is. But he won't get to call a "Press conference" where he only gets people in the room that he chooses. If he does not want to hear both sides then that is what he should say. Otherwise he is making a mockery of our free press and he will not be getting away with that.

And you give slanderers a pass...

Are you proud of your values?

Said the same thing in my post. ;)

 :doh

Take the whole thing in context and don't cherry pick and its the same thing. That's the problem with many people today. They hear only certain words and beyond those words ignore everything else that was said.

My post was to indicate that I made a dumb, rookie mistake and stopped reading before I should have.

Link? or is that you just pulling **** out of thin air again?

irrelevant to the question asked
you disagree with the assessments of several of our intelligence agencies?
As a reminder here was your question. No, I don't trust our intelligence agencies when it has been shown time and time again that they lie to the American people without repurcussion. Until they submit proof then I have no reason to trust them. If they want to play the "we can't reveal our sources due to national security" then they just won't be believed. They've been shown to classify information which doesn't need to be classified simply for the sake of political expedience.

You didn't watch it? It was as plain as day. Here's the link though.

Trump pits his staff against the media - POLITICO

I watched it and I thought it was hilarious. My wife did too. We were laughing our asses off. Costa is a scum sucking bottom feeder that works for a fake news outlet. He deserved it. Being a member of the press doesn't give someone a pass to be an asshole. It also doesn't abolish the rights of the person being harassed.
