3 observations.
1) the only possible shot at Trump was the comment about "torture" but it was pre-Trump so it must've been something else.
2) the rest of the rant was a recognition of the path we've been on with assistance from the current administration.
3) looks like the Judge had a book to hump.
WHAT IF this guy had half a brain?
Greetings, bubba. :2wave:
When I listened to his "what ifs," I couldn't help but think that I sure wouldn't like living under those conditions! I hope they never ever happen here!
I'll buy his book!!
What exactly in this rant did you disagree with?
...And conservatives. Napolitano is a right-libertarian and often critical of conservatives who want to subvert freedoms.
While I don't always agree with him, Judge Napolitano is one of the few conservative talking heads worth listening to. Here he goes off on the freedoms lost in the United States and how the very worst could be on its way (knock at Trump?):
Want to make a correction: I assumed this was a recent rant but it is actually from 2012. It is still quite relevant now more than ever. The video poster claims the rant got him fired.
I think it is more of a knock on every president (both sides) and largely a knock on the pitiful shape our government has become. Most of what he is talking about is what is already in place so less a "what if" and more of this is what we have become and are heading to.
Frankly, I think the founders would be pleasantly surprised to see the union last as long as it has and with the Constitution still largely in tact.
This guy has been wrong about everything. I stopped listening to him at all. Plus, I don't like his hair.
The stuff right after the opening sentence.
Can you be more specific about what it is you disagree with or did you simply see his name decide you weren't even going to listen before posting that it is nonsense?
I did listen.
"what if (the President) could kill you without warning."
This guy is nuts.
Well I do agree that it is pretty irrational to think a President would, but he technically does have that power.
I did listen.
"what if (the President) could kill you without warning."
This guy is nuts.
You are offended by the truth, a possible sign of cognitive dissonance.
NO - I am offended by radical extremism disguised as conservatism wearing the costume of a constitutionalist defrauding decent people.
Maybe this is an example of the observation by Herbert Agar: the truth that makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to hear?
Virtually all of Napolitano's scenarios are true, today's status quo. Many people prefer not to hear, or read, that their government is utterly out of legal bounds.
I would be happy to read the supporting evidence for each of his WHAT IF'S to see how true each of his scenarios are true or not. I suspect its all a matter of perspective and ideological mindset.
Obviously it's old news now, the piece shown is from 2012 I think.
Regarding supporting evidence, do you understand the purpose and requirements of the old Habeas Corpus legal principle? Do you acknowledge that it is found in Section 9 of Article I of the Constitution?
Are you presenting that and in support of which claim in the video? State your case and I will read and consider it.
Regarding Habeas, just guessing on the time frame here, when Napolitano "what if" said the government can hold you indefinitely based only on allegations, he was correct. About 4 years ago, the catch-all National Defense Authorization Act, an annual event, had the government granting itself the power of indefinite detention, as long as the Executive claims that the person being held is a "terrorist". That my friend, is an effective repeal of Habeas Corpus. A previous piece of legislation from the Bush era, the Military Commissions Act, effectively did the same thing. Napolitano's rhetorical "what if" had come to pass.
Regarding POTUS killing you without due process, that is precisely what Obama did to the American born muslim whose name escapes me at the moment. Without even an indictment, they killed him by drone, I think in Africa somewhere. That set the precedent for the extrajudicial, extralegal, killing of US citizens.
Again, Napolitano's hypothetical was in fact, the status quo.
Please get back to me when you have a name and more specifics on that. Thank you.
Thanks, I'll pass. I'm still trying to earn a living and have better things to do than inform brainwashed Americans.
