Since we appear to have reached an era where nobody trusts the media, I am curious if it is even possible for the left and right to agree on what media outlet may be the least biased.

It would be beneficial to know since so many threads start out with posters immediately dismissing the topic based only on the source provided. Maybe we could have some better discussions if we knew which media source would elicit the least suspicion of bias.

If such a critter existed, I would watch it.
As it is, most people only watch what echoes their personal leanings.

but to be fair, if such a critter existed, it would be hated by all and be called partisan by all.

Once in the 80's, I helped my sister-in-law write a very fair article about guns in the local Tujunga, CA paper she was working for.
She even used my 6 inch nickel Colt trooper and a target I shot as the picture.
She got slammed by both sides.
One some issues there is no "middle ground".

If there is a media outlet which is less biased than the BBC I haven't seen it yet.

The AP and Reuters are usually a decent sampling of news. If you want to really glean the truth read Reuters, then a companion article from TruthDig (a decidedly left leaning site) and then from an outlet like Fox (a conservative media source). SOmewhere in the middle you will probably get a feel for the 'truth'. Trust no one.

At one time I would've said CNN, but after the recent Donna Brazille thing, well I never thought I'd ever flip to the otherside - but they really did it wrong here.

I'm still hoping for them, though. Maybe if they land Megyn Kelly.

I'll also echo BBC & Reuters from upthread.

It is virtually impossible to not have a lean. Everyone has opinions. Multiple sources from both sides is generally going to be the best bet and realize the truth is somewhere in the middle. I like to listen to podcasts from both sides generally. As a conservative I have found the most objective person on Trump to be Ben Shapiro, he was a #nevertrumper but he is very conservative. It seems every other news media person Trump is either God or Satan.

Also as long as you know what bias they subscribe to it is not that big of a deal. The problem is when news media like Fox, CNN, and MSNBC try to act like they are simply reporting and have no bias or agenda.

BBC, and NPR.

Instead of looking for unbiased news, be aware of the biases that are out there and try to get different perspectives.

No idea about least biased, but I try to read a mix of oppositely biased media.

"read" is a big help when it come to avoiding bias...

NPR and BBC. Simply because I listen to the radio more than I watch tv.

I cannot come up with a completely unbiased news source these days and that is tragic. A careful scrutiny of headlines at BBC or political content at NPR shows them both to be as biased as anybody else from the headlines they use to the photos they use to the opening content of their newscast. The AP and Reuters have been downright dishonest in how they present their news content. And wasn't it Reuters caught using photo shopped photos to make events look more sensational or dramatic than they actually were? That was some time back, however, and no clue whether they have cleaned up their act.

Evaluation of any news source requires some savvy and unbiased critique.

1. Do they include the who, what, where, when, why, and how in the first two paragraphs or do you have to find the extenuating information deep into the story if it is provided at all?

2. Do the headlines and teasers provide a completely different impression than the actual facts of the story?

3. Do the photos accompanying the photo intentionally try to create a false impression by those viewing the photos?

4. Is the news source providing ALL the news rather than that favoring one or another side in any given situation?

I would say CBS, I haven't seen where the NY Times has been biased in that sense anyway. If there are examples of it, I'd like to see them. PBS is good; very boring, but they don't demonstrate any bias in their reporting.

Oooor, we could stop using ad hominem in every thread as a lazy way to get to the end of a debate and just address the presented articles with actual counter arguments that prove the source material flawed?

Debate on a debate site? Crazy talk!

No one reads the Wall St Journal anymore, I guess. They are usually pretty even handed.

Good question, Im not sure I know the answer. My best guess is Reuters? NPR? . . maybe BBC though I don't think they are free of biased just maybe the best group. Sad isn't it?

What I do know if anybody says MSNBC or FOX you totally expose yourself and your inability to know biased from a hole in your ass ;)

None are perfect but I can't think of a less bias one than BBC.

Well of course they're the least biased. They're British based. They have little reason to be biased when it comes to US politics.

Reason.com.

They hate Democrats AND Republicans.

Cspan... it's time consuming, but I prefer to hear the horses' mouths directly instead of having soundbites chosen for me by "news" brokers.

That's right.
Because considering what outlet we might use as a relatively unbiased source might lead to more calls for substantiation.
I could see how that might be unpopular with you.
