Why is Gary Johnson still in the race - CNNPolitics.com

CNN is freaking out that Johnson will hurt Hillary. If it hurt Trump, this story would have NEVER appeared.

Still, Johnson's resilience is causing genuine concern for top Democrats.

"There's one message I want to deliver to everybody: If you don't vote, that's a vote for Trump. If you vote for a third-party candidate who's got no chance to win, that's a vote for Trump," President Barack Obama said on the Steve Harvey radio show this week.

Vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine is warning wavering Democrats attracted to Johnson that they risk bringing about an electoral catastrophe similar to the one in Florida in 2000 when Ralph Nader siphoned votes away from Vice President Al Gore. That allowed Bush to claim Florida after the vote count showdown in the US Supreme Court.

Cuz Hilldogs such a horrible candidate.

Noticed the MSM hit him pretty hard for not knowing that " Allepo " was a City in Syria.

I think he is way more a threat to Trump than he is to Clinton. If this story was about Jill Stein I would agree since she is a left winger like Clinton is.

Johnson's a threat to nobody but himself and the Libertarian Party. I mean....come on!! The LP claims to be the best alternative to our current 2-party system, yet they put up a member of the Cheech and Chong fanclub as their candidate?!

One of their core tenants is the legalization of marijuana. So why would they have an issue with their candidate supporting the legalization?

Having Obama and Kaine go after him is not an effective strategy. Just interview him more. Barney Fife has been embarrassing himself enough lately.

That's the thing about 3rd party candidates. The more one sees of 'em, the more one understands why they're third party candidates.

I think the problem is that the libertarian party is becoming the party of pot when it is really much, much more than that.

I think it might be a good thing for the Libertarian party right now. If some idiots see Johnson as an alternative to Clinton they have no idea about all the other stuff that's included in being a Libertarian. It would probably be a bad thing for Johnson to be too open about his other positions.

IDK. I think people want to make it the party of pot to marginalize it, but I don't think it is.

Jill Stein is most certainly left wing. The Green Party has a lengthy platform which they proudly claim to be anti-capitalist. Clinton is actually more conservative(or neo-conservative) than Trump on some issues.

Your claim that Clinton is left wing is just as flawed as anyone who calls President Obama a socialist. ha ha
First of all, free trade is an ideological polar opposite of any left wing philosophy. Hillary called the TPP "the gold standard of trade deals" as Secretary of State. Obama is pushing the TPP heavily right now. FYI Obama deported more people in his first 4 years than George W. Bush did in 8. Obama is the "Deporter-In-Chief"
Secondly, Hillary Clinton doesn't even support single payer healthcare let alone socialism. This is further right than even the Conservative Party of Canada. You can see videos of even Chelsea Clinton on the campaign scaring people that Bernie Sanders wanted to abolish private health insurance.
Why would Goldman Sachs and all of these obviously capitalist Wall Street interests donate to Clinton's campaign if she was a leftist? The Democrats appeal to the left in their rhetoric and social issues, but the difference between them and the Republicans is not of kind, but of degree. Dems may be left of the Republicans, but they are still a right of center party.

What part of Hillary Clinton's campaign or the Democrat platform has anything to do with abolishing private property and nationalizing industry of any kind? The Green Party is most certainly left of center, but the Green Party platform and the Democrat Party Platform are nothing a like.

Remember even George H.W. Bush is going to vote for Hillary Clinton. She's free trade. Fidel Castro is a leftist. Hugo Chavez was a leftist. Clinton was on the board of directors with Wal Mart. lol
For more information on "leftism". Please start with Hegel and Marx and please don't take Bill O'Reilly's "far left loon" insults literally. :)

It's always been the party of pot, just other people tacked onto it because they didn't like the two party system. They tried to make it their own and now its just a big mess. The pot was always first though. Everything else is secondary.

Gary Johnson doesn't understand that he isn't a better choice. He's just as idiotic.

CNN is freaking out that Johnson will hurt Hillary. If it hurt Trump, this story would have NEVER appeared.

CNN has given Gary Johnson ample air-time and room to spread his message. It's not their fault he shoots himself in the foot, every other month. He is another one who is wildly unprepared to be President. As a Republican I have taken shots at Trump more than any other Republican in recent years and yet, I have a blog post talking about how bad a choice the third party candidates are in this election as well. So your claim that if this hurts Trump the story would have never appeared is bogus. In fact, the two emulate each other, but Johnson does a really, really bad imitation of Trump, when it comes to these sorts of things.

Good post!

Even Bernie's self proclaimed Socialist' moniker is problematic, because his platform sure isn't socialist!

Yeah, our 2 party system is so intellectually and morally sound and dignified....

Why did he pick Bill Weld as his running mate?
Days before he picked him he was part of the establishment republican's.
Without a doubt one of the #neverTrump folks.

Libertarian vice presidential hopeful Bill Weld said Friday that he's "not sure anybody is more qualified than Hillary Clinton to be president of the United States," the latest misstep in what's been a painful week for the third-party ticket.

Exactly!
Bernie Sander's campaign is evidence that mainstream American liberals can no better define "socialism" than conservatives. What's funny is liberals think they are "left-wing".

I new Bernie was full of **** the whole time. How was he going to take on the bankers when he backed out from voting to merely audit the most powerful bank there is and make it transparent to the public? After the House voted yes, he was basically the reason that bill didn't pass the Senate a few years ago. When he endorsed Hillary and thanked Obama at the DNC I lost any and all respect I had left for him.

Governor Gary Johnson cut state taxes 18 times in New Mexico and left the state with over a billion dollar surplus. Sure, he must be an imbecile and a kook.

You guys don't like libertarians. I get it. Because most Americans are uneducated idiots. That's why you can't understand ideas such as free markets, low taxes, and personal liberty.

You are the product of a government school system. You reap what you sow.
