Dissing your superiors in public is not a good look.

Maybe she can land a gig at some local cable access channel.

In a phone interview, Ms. Harris-Perry confirmed she would not appear on the show this weekend. She said she had received no word about whether her show, which runs from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays, had been canceled, but said she was frustrated that her time slot had faced pre-emptions for coverage of the presidential election. She said she had not appeared on the network at all “for weeks” and that she was mostly sidelined during recent election coverage in South Carolina and New Hampshire. (She was asked to return this weekend.)

In her email, Ms. Harris-Perry wrote that she was not sure if the NBC News chairman, Andrew Lack, or Phil Griffin, the MSNBC president, were involved in the way her show was handled recently, but she directed blame toward both.

“I will not be used as a tool for their purposes,” she wrote. “I am not a token, mammy or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by Lack, Griffin or MSNBC. I love our show. I want it back.”

and after all of that work to modify her lisp
... Lack, the former head of NBC News, was brought back to run the news division, and one of his chief missions was to fix the ailing MSNBC, which significantly trails Fox News and CNN in viewership. In the last few months, Mr. Lack has steered MSNBC away from its liberal identity and moved it toward harder news in the daytime hours. Since January, the network has had round-the-clock election coverage (including the reintroduction of Mr. Williams as co-anchor on primary nights), and notched strong ratings gains year-over-year in the mornings and afternoon.
Ms. Harris-Perry, who is also a professor at Wake Forest University, has hosted her MSNBC show since 2012. She has used the show to explore issues like social justice and racism, and diversity has been the centerpiece of the show since its start. ...
it's a good thing miss entitled has her wake forest professorship to fall back on, because there is no way she can win this battle. her objectives directly conflict with lack's
maybe she should follow al 'tawanna brawley' sharpton into the sunset

I watched her show a couple of times. She has a chip on her shoulder that could sink the titanic. It's painful to watch. If this Joy Reid can do a better job then go for it. As for the pre-emption, go with the flow. Talk about how race and social justice ties into the election. Maybe she can explain to us why Hillary is popular among the Black community.

actually it sounds like you were a "token, mammy or little brown bobble head" because if you were getting good ratings this prob wouldnt be happening.

Im sure both of her viewers will be upset. They can commiserate at the next family gathering.

she was just the wrong personality at the wrong time
msnbc was launched as the liberal counterpart to faux news
it was going to be the station that lead the liberals in propaganda induced lockstep, just as fox was driving the reich wing
the problem is progressives tend not to be expected to follow. you can try to lead them, but they will choose whether to adopt your views as their own
in contrast, not unlike the evangelists who are included within their cohort, the quasi-conservatives want to be told what to believe. no thinking required. see little miss booboo and duck dynasty
now that the msnbc executives realize that their TV demographic is significantly unlike that of faux news, they are making dramatic changes; away from viewpoints such as melissa harris-perry's and instead toward straight news programming (at least until the evening - again, like fox)
MH-P's talent is no longer required. see Al about his similar experience

And don't let the door hit you in your lisp!

My esteemed colleagues (and I use the term loosely!), I present to you this excerpt from the OP linked article for your edification:

Based upon this evidence, it would seem to me either:

1] Little Miss Harris believes she is bigger & more important than the Presidential election!

or,

2] Miss Harris is a Prima donna whom MSNBC is attempting force off-air, but needs to handle her dumping in an careful & prudent manner reflecting the complexities of firing her.

I suspect both of the above apply.

I never liked her, and believe she was never ready for prime-time; not even close! I see her (and the reverend) as a strong component of what is/was wrong with MSNBC, and except for two time slots, why I rarely tuned-in for years. But now with the changes and with Brian Williams during the day, I've occasionally found them as my background source during the days when I'm home and on the computer.

Let her go back to her protected by PC & tenure ivory tower, and leave the rest of us in freer society alone from her noise. It's time to move past this crap. And let her take Al with her!

I am all for tackling racial issues as they come to light in breaking news, there's still a lot of them out there. But the 24/7 racial drumbeat of these shows has alienated me, and I suspect a lot of other former viewers too, which is partially why their ratings are in the tank!

this story belongs in the category of "if a tree fell in the forest...........".

I think most know the rest.

From what I have read this show seems incompatible with the direction the network brand is going, which likely accounts for the constant cancellations as well as makes it likely that it was going to get pulled soon by the network anyways. I would be looking at the possibility that this woman knew for sure that the gig was up, and decided to leave in a splash rather than a whimper, in order to pump up her own social justice brand.

“I just want to pause on one thing, because I don’t disagree with you that I actually think Mr Ryan is a great choice for this role,” she said. “But I want us to be super careful when we use the language ‘hard worker.’ Because I actually keep an image of folks working in cotton fields on my office wall, because it is a reminder about what hard work looks like.”

Harris Perry told Aguilar (who at this point looked hopelessly baffled) that “in the context of relative privilege, I just want to point out, that when you talk about work-life balance and being a hard worker, the moms who don’t have health care who are working, we don’t call them hard workers. We call them failures, people who are sucking off the system.”

“Really, y’all do!” she continued as Aguilar shook his head. “That’s really what you do!”

Sounds like a kook to me. Will not be missed.

Maybe she can get a gig on Al Jazeera....oh wait, that liberal POS network failed also.

Lol. :cuckoo:

To be honest, the only thing that an save MSNBC is Keith Olbermann waxing poetic each night during this election cycle. Now that I will watch faithfully.

Fox will have a open slot, and she will all of a sudden turn into a conservative.

errrrrrrrrr.....ummmmmmm........Probably not.

Good riddance.

Frankly, I was surprised she had her own show at all. She just seemed....odd.

Somebody get a waaaambulance to escort MHP to a safe space.

Maybe she will fade into the sewer. Nobody with any ratings would hire her. She is a walking accident looking for a place to happen.

She was one of those people that takes up 80% of management's time with her self manufactured personal problems.
