There are a couple of issues going on in the media as it concerns Dr. Ben Carson, who in my opinion is a liar, a crook, and has done a pretty good job hiding his history until recently. For instance, I read an article about him not five years ago saying how he was a pillar of the black community. An example everyone should look up to.

So needless to say those on the right who love Carson, are comparing him to Obama and the polices Obama has enacted as President. Most of the Republican party believes Obama is a liar, a crook, and hides his past as well. In fact, even better than Carson or any other President or other public figure in History! The thing is Carson supporters (not the whole Party) are suddenly bringing up the birther stuff again. "Carson lies aren't as bad as Obama's." "Obama lies about his past too." Are some of the accusations I have seen floating around Social Media and the blogosphere. I don't even know why Obama is being brought up there. Is it just because they are both black?

I do not think the House of Lies Carson built will last the month, and if he is taken out for good, how will that look to the Conspiracy Theorists? It's almost a given that the man is a bumbling fool who cannot even get a story straight and now is a thorn in the side of the entire Neurology Field and perhaps the entire Medical Industry as a whole.

The plight of Carson is quite interesting because it brings up various questions concerning those industries. Being a neurosurgeon is usually seen as something of a great achievement and that achievement comes with great admiration and respect among friends, family, and colleagues. Now, I don't know about anybody else, but that is changing in my mind and leads one to doubt how "smart" one has to be to become a neurosurgeon. Though, there are a lot of evangelical doctors out there in the world. You would never know it because they don't feel the need to raise their profile and they probably don't have time to even think about how they would go about doing that.

So this bring the obvious neurological questions concerning Ben Carson's state of mind. We hold onto the unfortunate misconception that Doctors are trustworthy bookish individuals with a wealth of knowledge and data. Available to answer all our questions about whatever their specialty is. I am not one to usually go against the medical industry, and believe me this post is NOT attacking THEM. I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for modern medicine and technology. It's highlighting a real problem with a prolific person who was once inside it and now wants to run our country!

Yet does anybody feel that Carson has this knowledge? It's the age old question that I find myself asking whenever I talk to people about politics. "How can a person be so smart but so dumb?"

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

TL/DR version: Republicans keep trying to compare Obama to Carson. They don't understand how bad they look by comparing Carson to a guy they've called: a liar, a Muslim, an anti-Jew-lover-hater, an affirmative action baby, President Anti-Whiteness, the magical negro etc, etc, etc. The comparison is a bad one.

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

I think you have to be very smart to be a neurosurgeon, or really any kind of doctor. However, that does not mean that you know anything about any other field other than your specialty in medicine. Nor does it mean that you are capable of reason, objectivity and critical thinking about anything other than your specific field of medicine. Finally, simply because you are a good doctor does not mean that you couldn't be willfully ignorant about any other subject such as basic macroeconomics and monetary policy, the age of the earth, evolution and so on.

Carson is not going to be the Republican nominee. He is just another crazy nutter flash in the pan like Herman Cain was, and Trump is going to destroy the guy with these latest revelations. In fact, I am pretty sure Trump will end up being the GOP nominee.

be careful to not confuse personal beliefs with a lack of knowledge...especailly when it comes to matter of religious belief.....faith , when questioned, will cause folks to rationalize things that aren't exactly .. rational.

as for comparisons... well, this is politics... no matter what you do, there's always a way that you end up looking foolish..... that goes for everyone, not just Republicans comparing Carson to Obama.

as an aside, for a guy who has GOP in his screen name.. you sure seem to dislike everyone in the GOP and pretty much every policy they push....it's....odd. ( and irrelevant)

Wouldn't that apply to community organizers as well?

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

It applies to anyone. We all have to demonstrate our reason and intelligence on any issue outside of our areas of specialty. For example, I work with one of the smartest programmers in the country, yet he has given me no indication he has any business being president.

Most people's faith is tempered by reason. It is that don't do so that are scary.

Look, I am not a defender of Carson and have criticized him for what seems to be an embellishment of his life story. But it is hardly a "house of lies' and I don't see how the guy is a crook. He wont be the nominee, not because of this, but because he lacks any real experience to be the President. There is a true 'house of lies' being constructed by another candidate with a real shot of making it to the White House, so perhaps that is where attention should be focused.

Stop pointing out the obvious, it's creates butthurt on the part of his haters.

[snipped for length]

I never understood how the comparison of Carson to Obama helped conservatives in any way.

1. Obama was accused of benefiting from Affirmative Action (unconfirmed), whereas although it is likewise unconfirmed with Carson, he did actually say the words "I believe that I benefited from affirmative action." Although the statement in context doesn't offer more detail, it is an odd thing to say.
2. Obama was accused of not having enough political experience in spite of having served in the Illinoise Senate from 1997 to 2004 and the US Senate from 2005 to 2008. And even then many Democrats can admit that many of the problems he has faced since being elected President could have been mitigated by having had additional experience such as a governorship. So what is the point then by Carson supporters/defenders? Is it that such experience is no longer necessary? Is their point that Obama did a great job with no prior executive experience, so just imagine how great Carson will do with literally no experience at all?
3. I'm sorry to hear that Birtherism is rearing its ugly head once more, but again how does this comparison help Carson in the least? While I think it's petty to go after Carson because he did or didn't stab a couple people named Bruce or Todd, Birtherism reminds the public that the conservatives have a sizable camp made up of shrill, conspiracy theory lunatics and racists. It would be like me trying to remind everybody that the liberal side has Code Pink or the Black Panthers.
4. The religious comparison only helps Obama, as it reminds everyone how religion can and should be in politics: that faith can be private, divorced from politics, and not leading to insane beliefs like evolution being created by demonic forces, that the earth is 6000 years old, or as in the most recent example that the Pyramids were built in a few years by Joseph to store grain. Obama reminds us that there is no mutual exclusion between religious faith and tempered reason. Carson reminds us that religion can be completely insane.

I don't know whether or not Carson is a liar, per se, in other words someone with a malicious intent to deceive. I do know that he has a problem with the truth, though (Yeah, in politics is super low). Anyone concerned with Clinton's problem with the truth should be at least passably alarmed by Carson's record on Politifact.

Fletch, the reason I made this thread is to point out Carson's house of lies and to question his state of mind, not Hillary's. Let me tell you. Attention is focused on Hillary and the topic itself is rather too polarized to bother with at the moment. I'll wait until the primary is over and we have picked our nominee to go after the anointed one. Every Republican but one has to drop out of the race and one democrat (Sanders) before I can focus all my attention on her! Remember we have a year to do just that after the primary is over! and the House has been doing that for a good month already anyway. So why should I at the moment, when we have these certifiably insane people hijacking the Republican Party for their own agenda?

It should at least be down to 4 Republicans before I focus on Hillary. This is primary season. Hillary will always be there to attack.

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

Hillary will always be there to attack.

Well we could always go with Sanders whose record on honesty is better than anyone else's, so far as I've been able to tell, but I guess that's just plain lunacy now, isn't it.

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

Many supporters of Carlson here do not see any/little problem..........if I might say........... with his playing fast and loose with the truth

It maybe that the new rules in politicking for the presidency...........as they did for Trump..........is the same for the good doctor......... and as far I can see this n new politic is firmly planted in the GOP side of the aisle.................

And if so.......what may be the implications of this in the selection of the President

Yeah that's a good point especially if however unlikely Carson becomes the nominee. If he survives this scrutiny, he could do what Santorum did in 2012. Since at the moment he has effectively botched both Santorum's and Huckabee's chances of winning the evangelical vote. If Carson gets the nominee or goes far, Liberals might want honesty to counter Carson's lies. I have not been able to find any dirt on Sanders, and if he is accepting money from people other than Hollywood like lobbyists. I have yet to uncover that. I just don't agree with anything he says and it's unlikely he can counter Clinton's power and political operatives, no matter who the Republicans choose.

Oh I know conservatives will find more than enough to disagree with him on, he's a self proclaimed socialist. But he's ideologically consistent, non-hypocritical, and again more honest than anyone else. Personally I wanted to see fewer false statements on his politifact record, but...oh well...you're not going to get out of several decades of a political career without a few scrapes.

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

my gut instinct is to like this fellow
but, given some of his statements, it is almost as if he is intent on undermining his own candidacy
would want to hear some feedback from the staff of the john hopkins pediatric neurosurgery unit. was he a good manager. was he a superior neurosurgeon. was he found to embellish at work
for now, more questions than answers
the only way i would consider voting for him is if hillary is his opponent. in such a race, neither would have an edge as to veracity

Posting the findings of Politifact is like citing Media Matters.

Are we talking about the same Politifact that voted Obama's "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it" comment the Lie of the Year in 2013? If you want a narrative that grossly and dishonestly favors conservatives then you should probably stick to Conservapedia.

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

I heard Ben was shot five times in the seventies on his way to cut a rap record with Biggie!

Yes, yes I am... Just because they were not stupid enough to pretend Obama never said that lie or pretend that it wasn't by far the lie of the damned decade, doesn't change what Politifact is on a day to day basis.

Re: Ben Carson's House of Lies

This is the kind of thing that very clearly illustrates why the black community is so desperately ****ed in this country. Rappers, gang bangers, thugs...those are the role models young black people have. Successful blacks are labelled as sellouts. Successful conservative blacks? Fuggedaboudit.

Defeat his political positions. Fine. But the fact that so many liberals will ignore or defend someone like Hillary Clinton and her parade of lies and then parse and mangle every word of Carson's...well...thats ****ing hilarious. And truly...I cannot WAIT until Carson is no longer in the discussion...and he wont be the GOP nominee...and Hillary is. I and others will get to watch all the lying piece of **** hypocrites that are today tearing into Carson on the internet, news media, in congress, and everywhere else do their partisan slurp and eat her **** sandwiches, smile, and ask for seconds.

No, Carson won't be our bobo doll for long, and in the short term he will certainly be replaced with Trump. However, if we're going to hold a contest for who is most honest, Trump isn't going to fare better than Carson. In fact, it looks as though he's much less afraid of making untrue comments than Carson ever was.

And for comparison...

Of course we could put forth some candidates who are consistently honest, but as I said, that is lunacy.

Your quick turn to 'the other conservative' is very telling. Speaks volumes of you. So when it isnt trump (also very highly unlikely) you will turn to the NEXT, and the NEXT...but ultimately...at the end of the day...whoever the GOP candidate is, you will still enjoy Hillary's **** sandwiches with a smile while talking about 'the other guy'.

As I said...very telling.

No, you're right. We should continue to focus on Carson even after he drops out of the race. Brilliant, Vancemack.

I have no doubt many of you will. He hits your brown note, and the one thing we have learned through all of this...is some of you REALLY like that.
