Jon Stewart — the man who loves to be called a nonpartisan, a scourge of cant, an honest soul who follows the truth wherever it leads — has been secretly taking trips to the White House to receive intense one-on-one lobbying from President Obama.

Moreover, Politico reported Tuesday, “Daily Show” staffers routinely call up the White House to get the administration’s input.

Austan Goolsbee, a former top economic adviser to the president, frequently emailed with his college classmate Scott Bodow, a “Daily Show” executive producer, to offer spin. Obama flunky David Axelrod often reached out directly to Stewart.

Obama himself would summon Stewart to Washington for meetings.

It turns out Jon Stewart isn’t our Edward R. Murrow or our Mark Twain. He’s more like our . . . Jay Carney. Don’t count on future generations knowing Stewart’s name any more than they will know Carney’s.

Remember when, under a Republican president, it was the duty of all comedians to be the loyal opposition, to speak truth to power? Stewart does the opposite.

Not only did Stewart meet secretly with Obama, but it looks as if he or his staff communicated regularly with White House hacks so that he would know their talking points. Yes, he is a comedian, but he portrays himself as an unbiased observer of national issues. Now, it turns out that he is worse than a political hack. He has been a disingenuous propagandist for Obama.

good riddance mouthpiece.

Except that Stewart has criticized Obama numerous times, like when he criticized Obama soundly for not showing up to the France rally following their terrorist attack, and indeed, Stewart has criticized Obama to his face, like when he said, "you wouldn't say 'yes we can, with certain conditions'."

Oh...and the fact that he never portrayed himself as an "unbiased observer of national issues," and always portrayed himself as a comedian with a decidedly leftist lean.

Stewart is also primarily responsible for improving healthcare access for Vets when he lambasted the VA for setting a rule that would allow Vets to go to a private hospital only if they did not live within 50 miles of a VA hospital, as the crow flies. Stewart pointed out that Vets do not fly and thus, the rule should be based on whether they can reach a VA hospital within 50 miles by driving.

I'm not surprised to read this. I am a huge fan of Jon's, but in many cases he advances the official version of a number of high profile incidents. When interviewing men in uniform, Jon becomes groveling and sycophantic.

Many times he does take the right position, but probably more times he supports the status quo.

Really? Stewart claimed to be in the no spin zone?

So Obama meets more with liberal propagandists than he meets with Senators.

Shocking.

IT WAS NOT SECRET, as it was in the White House logs for anyone to see, it has simply not been reported til now, hence the "previously unreported."

Y'all just love to get all hyped and hysterical and use all kinds of incriminating words, and you people fall for it because you all seem totally incapable of legitimate reading comprehension.

I stopped watching both Stewart and Colbert shortly after BO got elected. They were both great during Shrub, speaking truth to power or so I thought. However, once the Dems controlled all three branches, they both still concentrated their vitriol on the out of power republicans. That's fine, but hardly non-partisan.

I think Obama is a media darling, as he was in 2008. Clearly, journalists in general are either liberal or conservative, never moderates, which explains why they don't like the Clintons. The Clintons are moderates; Obama is a liberal, W. and Reagan were conservatives. There's only room for ideologues.
