Key Observations:

* The president of PP described the organization that took the undercover videos, The Center for Medical Progress, as a "militant" organization on 4 separate occasions, implying/inferring that the organization was radical, extreme and violent. That was not only never challenged by Stephanopoulos and allowed to stand as fact, but no description of the organization other than hers was ever offered at all.

* The president of PP described the 2 videos as deceptive and on 5 separate occasions as "highly edited" even though the full, unedited versions of those videos were released within 24 hours of the release of the shorter versions. Stephanopoulos allowed her to use that excuse without challenge 4 of the 5 times she said it, and the closest thing to a challenge he ever made was after the 3rd time she said it, when he said

"I take your point that the videos were heavily edited, although the entire videos have been available."

In other words, he allowed her to premise every answer she gave based on "highly edited" videos, when he had in his possession the full length, unedited videos where those women said those exact same things he pointed out.

* Concerning the 2 PP women on the videos, George asked:

"How were they reprimanded?"

She answered "They have been reprimanded for their tone" and without being interrupted, spent the next 23 seconds singing the praises of PP and how wonderful an organization they were. She never answered the question and of course George let it go and moved on to the next question, as if he never asked it in the first place.

* Only 1 clip was presented to her from the 2 videos for comment, and it was the one where the woman was joking about wanting to own a lamborghini. Stephanopoulos never presented any of the clips that directly related to PP making a profit from aborted fetuses, or that they change the abortion techniques/procedures in order to harvest organs.

Here's the big one...

* The president of PP made an incredible, totally outrageous statement about The Center for Medical Progress, accusing them of being

"...behind the bombing of clinics and the murder of doctors in their homes and in their churches."

What's even more incredible than that statement itself, is the fact that Stephanopoulos not only didn't interrupt her right then and question her accusation, he never called her out on it at all. He allowed that malicious, inflammatory and totally unsubstantiated lie to stand as fact.

The following exchange is the closest thing in this entire interview to credible journalism by George Stephanopoulos I could find, but as you will see, it still falls short of the mark:

George: "The tapes appear to describe times when the clinics adjust the abortion procedure to better harvest... the fetal (inaudible)."

PPP: "It's absolutely not done... (switches to PP infomercial mode)"

George: "It does appear that is what's described in these tapes"

PPP: "It's because these tapes have been edited..."

George: "So when these doctors are talking about, and this gets graphic, but there talking about less crunchy ways to perform these abortions, so these organs can be preserved, what's happening there, are they just lying?"

PPP: "No, that's absolute... All of this is taken out of context... (then talks about women donating the fetal tissue and how wonderful that is)"

George: "(on the donation of fetal tissue) As long as the procedure is never altered, and you're stating that unequivocally?"

PPP: "That's right."

Stephanopoulos has the unedited tapes, but never shows a clip of the women describing how they would alter the procedure, nor does he challenge her when she says that the tapes were edited and the women were taken out of context in order to make it look as though they said those things. He had the evidence, the proof, right in his hands and instead of holding her feet to the fire, simply allowed her justifications, her allegations and her excuses to go virtually unchallenged.

Breaking down the interview:

7:45 - Total time of the interview
6:02 - Total speaking time for Planned Parenthood president
0:13 - Video evidence presented to PP President for comment

Breaking down PP president's comments:

2:49 - Time spent attacking The Center for Medical Progress and/or validity of video
2:18 - Time spent promoting & describing how wonderful Planned Parenthood is
0:55 - Time spent addressing allegations & answering the questions.

(continued)

Conclusion:

When a so called "news" organization that is considered by many to be reputable, does an interview to get answers to the questions surrounding such a high profile controversy/scandal such as this, you expect to not only get some answers, but to gain some perspective and some clarity on the person or persons surrounding it. What you don't expect to see is the person at the center of the controversy, the president of Planned Parenthood, turn the interview into a) a one sided, uncontested attack on their detractors and b) what can only be described as an infomercial for Planned Parenthood. Unfortunately, that is precisely what we got courtesy of George Stephanopoulos and the politically unbalanced team at ABC News. They allowed that woman to jump on her soap box and spend more than 5 of the 6 minutes (85%) she was allotted to answer the important questions surrounding those employees and the organization, and turn it into a political infomercial promoting her's and Planned Parenthood's interests.

What that woman said isn't the problem here... Everyone knew that she would attempt to do that, just as any other president, for any other company would... The problem is that the liberal bias of George Stephanopoulos and ABC News allowed her to do it, which is a disservice to the American public and a disgrace to the American news media... It's liberal bias at it's worse.

Sorry Grim, your analysis of George Stephanopoulous is complete utter bull****. He asked very good questions, you just didn't like her answers. Despite what you say, the American public knows better what Planned Parenthood actually does as health non profit center. And they don't sell fetus or tissue.

Your OP is a lie. She never said CMP had anything to do with any bombings or murders

She said, and I quote:

"I think what's not told is, that of course these are highly, selectively edited. The folks behind this in fact, are part of the most militant wing of the anti-abortion movement that has been behind, you know, the bombing of clinics and the murder of doctors in their homes, and in their churches... and that's what actually needs to be looked at."

What she said is true

That quote does not accuse CMP of being behind the bombing of clinics and the murder of doctors in their homes and in their churches; It' blames the "most militant wing of the anti-abortion movement" for that.

And she's right about that

One of the members of CMP’s board of directors, Troy Newman, is also the president of the extreme anti-abortion group Operation Rescue — an organization linked to several attacks on abortion clinics, that openly encourages stalking and harassment of clinic workers and doctors. Newman has actually gone on record saying he believes the killing of abortion doctors is a “justifiable defensive action.”

Newman Called Murder Of Abortion Clinic Doctor A “Justifiable Defensive Action.” In a 2003 press release, Newman defended Paul Jennings Hill, who was executed by lethal injection for murdering abortion doctor John Britton in Pensacola, FL. Newman argued that Hill should have been able to defend himself by classifying the murder as justifiable.
Today’s scheduled execution of Paul Hill is not justice, but is another example of the judicial tyranny that is gripping our nation. A Florida judge denied Rev. Hill his right to present a defense that claimed that the killing of the abortionist was necessary to save the lives of the pre-born babies that were scheduled to be killed by abortion that day. Our system of justice is based upon ‘innocent until proven guilty,’ but in Rev. Hill’s case, there was no justice because the court prevented him from presenting the legal defense that his conduct was justifiable defensive action.
“There are many examples where taking the life in defense of innocent human beings is legally justified and permissible under the law. Paul Hill should have been given the opportunity to defend himself with the defense of his choosing in a court of law. [Operation Rescue West press release, 9/3/03]

So while she did not blame CMP for any bombings or murders, it's clear that CMP leadership approves of murder

Parker: The Tipping Point

It took three videos showing Planned Parenthood doctors and executives discussing the culling and retailing of aborted baby parts, but Hillary Clinton finally managed to say that she found the videos “disturbing.”
For a professional politician like Clinton, whose every word is vetted by the vast right lobe of her brain, “disturbing” in the vernacular of less-scripted folk would be something like “horrifying” or “vile.”
But Clinton, whose base includes supporters of Planned Parenthood , as well as the mega-fundraising, pro-choice Emily’s List, tiptoed out on a limb. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it brave, but I also wouldn’t underestimate its significance. Even a passionately pro-choice presidential candidate has to pause at this juncture.
A tipping point may have already been reached, however, as people recoil from that which cannot be denied. Where once many could avert our eyes from the details of abortion, the details are now all we see and, thanks to the videos, hear. . . .
