[h=5]Rush demands Rush Limbaugh stop using their music on his show[/h]

Yesterday, I contacted Anthem Entertainment and Rush (the band) about Rush Limbaugh's airing of its music on his show, and today I was exclusively informed that the legendary Canadian rock group has formally demanded that the Rush Limbaugh Program stop using its music on the air.
For years now, Rush Limbaugh has been playing Rush music (get it?) as bumpers out of his commercial breaks, including the tracks "Bravado" and "The Spirit of Radio." In fact, when Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke and remarked about seeing sex tapes of Fluke in exchange for birth control pills, Limbaugh was playing the popular Rush track "The Spirit of Radio" under his rant.
Thankfully, that ends today. ...

I'm a huge fan of the rock group RUSH. Like most RUSH fans, I consider their music the soundtrack to my life.

Go ahead, get it over with... I've been taking crap for liking RUSH since I was 13, so yeah, yeah... Geddy sings like a... blah, blah, blah...

Anyway, I had no idea this was going on, Limbaugh using their music for show bumpers, but I'm glad their lawyers put a stop to it.

I know some conservative RUSH fans believe RUSHs music and Ayn Rand themes in 2112 and Anthem speak to them. Cool. It's all good when we're talking about Dirk, Lerxst, and Pratt. They are proud Canadians and very generous philanthropers. (although Peart lives in L.A. now).

The Spirit of Radio is about the uplifting and transformative effect of music, as heard through FM radio. Totally inappropriate for and unrelated to AM talk radio. It was a huge breakthrough song, and while it was the first RUSH tune to get major air play all over the U.S., it actually condemns the commercialization of FM music programming, "glittering prizes and endless compromises, shatter the illusion of integrity..."

Re: Bravado, I imagine Limbaugh never listened to the lyrics. He just like the title.

Never mind,

I heard Peter Gabriel did the same...now if the Pretenders did? That'd be like shaving Samson's hair...

Never mind,
Thank you Mycroft, when I saw this I groaned. Oh good lord please don't drag one of my favorite all time bands into this Slutgate crap! Please don't tell me Geddy and crew, hell Niel after all he has been through, signed on to this? I'm still hoping this is not true, not because I give a crap about if Limbaugh uses their music or not. In fact I had no idea he has been using their music for years, last I heard him he was using the Pretenders. But because I like to think they don't need the publicity as well as they are lot deeper thinkers than this! IMO. I mean which of the three (or was it their publicist?) that decided, you know what we really need to do? We need to get involved in this crap from down south. Why? If they were lead into believing this might help them finally get into the Hall of Fame, which they damn well should already be in, I might be able to forgive them. Or their publicist. But jeesh.

Besides as was learned by Christie Hind and band, as long as he pays to use it he can. Knowing Limbaugh he will probably open his next show with Ghost of a Chance.

My "never mind" is not in reference to the topic.

I had posted a question to hazlnut about the article...and then realized he had answered it in his post. So I edited my post into...never mind...and left it at that.

Truth be told...I don't know much...or care much...about Rush (the band) or Rush (the talker).

Understood, I was responding to your initial question which was quite good and said much the same. Should have left it up IMO. I'm responding as a long time RUSH fan, the band. My editing (damn Droid) and your editing collided.

Nah he'll probably abuse Woody Guthrie's "This land is your land this land is my land"

I wonder how many liberals have ever said the word "slut" in their life, and now troll debatepolitics with how offended they are that some guy said "slut" on a radio channel that they don't even listen to.

I mean really, slutgate? REALLY? made me chuckle. Forget about birth control, Sandra Fluke is a slut simply because she's a lawyer. This is on par with Obama bowing to the saudis, really. it's stupid to even talk about this.

It is not that I don't like good joke but huh? Stretch Armstrong?

Interesting context with out any awareness on your part.

People use to be called whores because they were willing to do commercial art. So now if one is a lawyer by default they are a slut?

It wasn't a joke and I think the guy (limbaugh) would use the song out of context.

A bit esoteric but I'd agree in general. I can definitely see him using it regarding anything about real estate or imminent domain too. Not so sure with regard to the rock band RUSH though. Seriously, too bad MyCroft pulled down his initial post. It had some seriously good points in it, as regards RUSH (the band lyrics) which of course mean Peart lyrics.

He is the worst of the Machiavellians and will be disingenuous to the hilt regardless of any intellectual honesty.

IOW to him the ends justify the means

And he does it in a very sophomoric way.

Frankly I find the whole premise that Guthrie was any of the things you just accused him of disgusting! Disgusting sir! Good night!

Uhmm I was talking about Limbaugh abusing Guthrie's music, message.

Just like he does with the Pretenders, Rush, Peter Gabriel, etc.

Calling him Machiavellian, in the sense of the term itself, gives him far too much credit, good sir.

This "droid" communication is starting to kill me. I was making a joke, which was lost. Seems I need to get off my droid as most every joke I have made here has gone down the same way! Just about the time I congratulated myself for maybe my first un-edited post, well, you're killing me sir! With your good humor, sorry that got lost in meaty fingers on droid pad. My bad. Time to sign off till I have a keyboard.

I did say sophomoric. Should I have like a kindergartner?

Cheers no harm done.:peace

On the whole I view kindergartners as having less animosity toward their fellow man than someone like Rush, so no. Demagogic sophistry as an accusation, historically, would be quite alright with me. ;)

Okay, just so everyone knows what you are talking about in respect to my edited post, I referred to the comment from the article by someone named "inturmoil". Y'all can read his comment there. But, as I said, hazlnut addressed that comment in his OP.

I can verify this, you are a good man sir. Owing to forum rules I now see why you edited it. Again, you are a good man. Good sir.

Limbaugh is a professional and spent years as a DJ. I'll bet he knows more lyrics than you ever will.
