Heeeeeeey Abbott.....

Earlier today Australian PM Tony Abbott was ousted as the leader of Australia's Liberal Party and has been replaced by PM-elect Malcolm Turnbull.

From the BBC: Australia is to have a new prime minister after Tony Abbott was ousted as leader of the centre-right Liberal Party by Malcolm Turnbull.

The Liberal Party has ruled Australia since September 2013.....snip~

What happened?

I find it interesting how "liberal" is viewed as right wing there, and republican there would be considered a more liberal ideology.

If you find someone that *really understands* Australian politics, be sure to let us know.

Well I think this video explains should help:

For those who do not want to watch the video Abbott is extremely unpopular, mainly because he is an idiot. He is responsible for scandal after scandal and it makes the party look bad and significantly reduced their chancres of re-election so they ousted him. He also did not give a single **** about the environment and removed environmental protection for many things in Australia including the Great Barrier Reef.

Well the political spectrum is defined by the political tradition of the country, the US has a rather "special" one.

The tricky part is no one liked Abbott, everyone hated him.

There are alot of Aussies where I am, and they are all delighted... BUT!

The Liberals ran against what the Labor Party had done between Gillard and Rudd and now they've done it... so really for Australia... not particularly a victory even though they've got rid of one of the worst leaders in their nations history.

Scandal after scandal eh.....Now I wonder why that sounds familiar.

Well it was almost on a weekly basis apparently.

Do they have purple mountains majesty?

And they decided to run him out of office, huh? You would think that answer would work in other places to.

I am absolutely disgusted and angry at the back-stabbing bastard, Turnbull. I am, or rather was, a committed Liberal Party voter (the Liberal Party in Australia is closer to your Republican Party and the Labor Party is closer to your Democrat Party), but I will NEVER vote Liberal Party while Turnbull is the leader. He is a Lefty, and rightfully belongs in the Labor Party, so the Liberals are no longer conservative. I like Tony Abbott, a good decent man, probably too decent to be a politician. To vote Labor, or worse still, Green, is unthinkable, so my vote will now go to ALA - Australian Liberty Alliance, a party that will launch next month. No, they won't win a lot of seats, if any, to begin with. It will take time to build up and get candidates elected, but in all conscience, I can no longer vote for a party that is not conservative.

You have to understand that from the moment Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party won government, there has been an incredibly strong media campaign orchestrated to oust him from office. He is hated by the left media, and most media in Australia is left wing. Turnbull, the back-stabbing bastard who is now PM, had the portfolio that included the ABC or, more correctly known as the ALPBC, a very, very biased pro-Labor Party media outlet that is funded by taxpayers.

There is no doubt that people-smugglers will have watched what happened politically here, and be rubbing their hands with glee. The Liberal Party under Abbott stopped the boats completely which stopped the drownings at sea (their policy saved lives). The Labor Party wants open borders, so now, the boats will start again, people will drown at sea and Labor will refuse to bare responsibility for those deaths as they have for the 1200 illegals who died under their watch.

I was so angry that I sent an email this morning to my Federal Member of Parliament (this is a safe Liberal seat) and the response from her was predictable and very disappointing, prompting me to reply. I don't expect an answer! Australians can't win; if they vote Liberal at the next election they are pretty much voting Labor and we have to vote, it's compulsory. Australia is now screwed and, if Labor get in next year, totally screwed.

A truly sad day for Australia.

Err you do know that the word Liberal has a very very different meaning outside the US than it has in the US right? So being a Liberal outside the US, means being on the right wing. A Liberal outside the US is equivalent to a Libertarian in the US.. kinda.

Turnbull's victory is reminiscent of the coup our former Prime Minister Julia Gillard (Labor Party) staged against Kevin Rudd in 2010. (The Liberal Party and their supporters were very critical and outspoken about the way that was handled at the time and yet they've done the same thing.) We have had five Prime Ministers now in 5 years, and to say it's difficult to have any confidence in the two major Parties is a huge understatement.

It really doesn't speak well for Australian Politics in general does it.

Abbott was a political embarrassment for both Labor and the Liberals, who only really came about due to widespread disgust of Labor's political infighting and their being out of touch with their own base. With Abbott gone Australians will finally have a chance to choose between two leaders that aren't incompetent or out of touch with their voter base.

It did once in the USA -- Nixon was run out of office.

I think it does. I expect a surge in 3rd parties at the next election, meaning a better represented populace, and a more democratic style of government. I would honestly like the see the Liberal and Labor parties implode from infighting.

Turncoat better push for a republic vote. He has no other intelligent views.

Yikes! Someone listens to too much Alan Jones on talkback radio (the Australian equivalent of Glenn Beck)

More like Blue Mountains - they are so old they have worn down. The 3 Sisters and the Aboriginal story behind them are interesting.

The Three Sisters - 3 Sisters Echo Point Katoomba - Blue Mountains Australia

Tony Abbot was so unpopular and embarrassing that the Liberal/National party (the more conservative party) would never have won the election next year with him as the leader. Smart move on the part of the LNP.

No, I have never listened to Alan Jones. I loathe radio with a passion and never, ever listen to it. The fact is, like it or not, most of the media in Australia is left wing, and the media did orchestrate a campaign against Tony Abbott. They still are. Abbot gave a speech in England and the left media here is carrying on about him still. They hated/hate him because he is a conservative. The media like Turnbull because he is Left wing and by rights should be in the Labor Party. You may not like it, but it is the truth.

The Liberal Party have lost a lot of conservative voters over the back stabbing. We are all going over to ALA (Australian Liberty Alliance) and will find conservatives to vote in the House of Reps. ALA was launched in October and will now face a media backlash calling them everything they can lay their nasty little minds too. I hope ALA can whether the storm that is about to attack and try to destroy them. Never underestimate the stupidity of large groups of people, so many Australians won't bother to find out about ALA, they will just believe the nonsense that the media will feed them. Tis pitiful really.

They take pride in being opposite down-undah. Just like their day is our night, etc.
