Myanmar ruling party concedes as Suu Kyi heads for poll landslide

Myanmar's ruling party conceded defeat on Monday in a general election as the opposition led by democracy figurehead Aung San Suu Kyi appeared on course for a landslide victory that could ensure it forms the next government.

"We lost," Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) acting chairman Htay Oo told Reuters a day after the Southeast Asian country's first free nationwide election in a quarter of a century.

RANGOON, Burma — More than 10,000 Buddhist monks and nuns rallied recently to celebrate Burma’s restrictive new race and religion laws, packing themselves into an indoor soccer stadium to cheer and chant nationalist slogans.

The event, held last month in Burma’s commercial capital, was a dramatic display of a rising force in Burma’s political landscape — a group of ultra-
nationalist Buddhists called the Ma Ba Tha, who analysts say could pose a threat to the country’s shaky hopes for democracy.

Then the rampant corruption where Military Officers and favored businesses reap gigantic profits, theft and corruption is the order of the day..
How will she bring control and law enforcement to the hard line, racist Buddhist movements who have attacked and murdered Muslims?
Last but not least, she has avoided addressing the attacks on Muslims.

After what, 25 plus years of uncontested authoritarian rule? Amazing. I fear, however, that the redeemer will be worse than the oppressor in this case.

Really? You think Aung San Suu Kyi will turn into a despot? On what do you base that wild assessment?

She has been pilloried throughout the world for her silence on the Buddhist attacks, murders of Muslims.
Bringing him to justice would be a clear signal, if the Military does allow it.
The laws passed that are and were designed to harass Muslims should be repealed.
Did not have a Muslim candidate in any slots for elections.
Problems within the party complaining about her having authorization leadership style.
If she is confirmed as the winner, depending upon what action she takes, the party could easily split.
Some will want to move fast, but the smart move is slow, and gain more support as she does.
Rescinding that racist law should take place within a year at the most.
Take down the Priest and any who could fill his position. Do not just cut the head off, include all the heads you can.
And while the Military has stated they will not interfere, there is always that whisper in her ear, do no go there.
I am referring to the billions in corruption each year. Jade alone is very profitable.
if riots and strife begin, well the Military will eventually step in.

From 2013. This nutcase has further entrenched himself as a leader who will be difficult to deal with. he threw his support to the Military candidates.

Why are Buddhist monks attacking Muslims? - BBC News
While no Muslims have been killed in Sri Lanka, the Burmese situation is far more serious. Here the antagonism is spearheaded by the 969 group, led by a monk, Ashin Wirathu, who was jailed in 2003 for inciting religious hatred. Released in 2012, he has referred to himself bizarrely as "the Burmese Bin Laden".
March saw an outbreak of mob violence directed against Muslims in the town of Meiktila, in central Burma, which left at least 40 dead.

Really? You think Aung San Suu Kyi will turn into a despot? On what do you base that wild assessment?

Civil strife and lack of leadership.

I doubt she will be allowed to. The military won't want the nervous to recede before the next election. They would probably like it to grow just in time.

Not sure what you are referring to? The Muslim boogeyman? The corruption? Or both.
The corruption would be handled like weaning an addict. They will not give all back at once.

Is that what I said? Let me read my post again real quick, pardon me while I step away for a minute ------------------ nope, that's not what I said.

Who's post did you read? Surely not mine?

Why was it so hard for others to get that? Civil war and uncontrollable sectarian violence is not out of the question.

Yes, very easily done.

And with the numbers he can have on any street in any city or villages are substantial.
The main reason he and his main leadership have to be taken down. And on ly support from the Army will alow that to happen.
I am sure there are enough crimes committed to have all sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
That said, the Army will want certain things. Go slow on their mnay illegal operations, Jade is one. And they are connected to every major business in the country.
But they ( the Army) in the end are not the main threat to democracy, this Freak Priest is.

Myanmar's Ma Ba Tha monks flex their political muscle - BBC News
The most powerful political force in Myanmar's election has no candidates and will win no seats. But when the monks of the Ma Ba Tha speak, politicians listen.

Tens of thousands of Buddhist monks, nuns and supporters were at the biggest rally of the election campaign so far.

It will be difficult to fight down corruption. But it was the Muslims and other minorities that have nationalistic Buddhist monks riled.

I am not aware that the Muslims were causing problems in the country?
I am aware of illegal immigrants from what i recall Bangladesh.
