In the photograph that made Kim Phuc a living symbol of the Vietnam War, the 9-year-old runs toward the camera, napalm melting her skin. More than 40 years later she has a new chance to heal, and by her side, the man who took the iconic photo. (Oct. 25)

Wow, 40 years later. Better late than never, anyway.
Her scars, like those of that horrible and unnecessary war, won't go away for a very long time, maybe never.

Agreed. Better late than never. That and the pic of police officer shooting the suspected VC in the head are the images that always come to my mind when I think of Vietnam.

Sadly we didn't learn our lesson when it comes to unnecessary wars

Wow!

What an iconic, chilling, image - and I recently saw an article on its recent anniversary (40th, I believe).

Until then, I didn't even know she was identified and had immigrated to North America, and was still alive.

And I remember that image well, from the newspapers I delivered as a young boy.

Dittohead not! said it best: "The Scars of War"!

Maybe the lesson was learned in Iraq. Maybe.

good for her.

it's always painful when kids are caught up in war... so i'm glad to see she's finally getting the treatment she is due.

I won't go into commentary on the Vietnam war ,though.... it cheapens the occasion.

hehehe...that's very hopeful thinking.
the best i can hope for is that our next war is run by people who actually understand war.. and more importantly, understand how to manage the subsequent peace.
this administration and the last were woefully unequipped to handle either.

Yes, just as Johnson/Nixon were unequipped for that one.
