    Another Trouble Maker, China

Recently, China and Philippines have been fighting over Scarborough island in South China Sea. Historically, the island has been Philippine territory, and nobody dared to deny that fact.
However, from an unknown point in time, China has been claiming that the island is Chinese territory, and recently, the Chinese government banned Philippine fishermen from approaching the island.
At the moment, China is making a similar situation with Korean island... The Ieodo...
Historically, Ieodo is Korean territory, but China is claming that Ieodo is Chinese territory for security and economic reasons.
China has territory disputes with a total of 14 countries.
If China wants to be a powerful nation, it has to act like one, and not bully other countries, and create bunch of unnecessary conflicts.
How can we call such a country a G2 nation?

I think the Native American tribes would say something similar in regards to the United States and their Westward Expansion.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

The Filipino Navy and the PLAN have been facing off at Scarborough Shoal since April 10th. The Filipinos are invoking the US/Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty in an effort to receive American backing. America should stay out of this dispute. If America backs the Philippines it will only be giving them false hope that they can prevail. They can't prevail under any set of circumstances. America must avoid conflict with China.

    Re: Another Trouble Maker, China

Vietnam tried to set up a couple of partnerships with international oil companies to drill in the waters near the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. China announced it wouldn't recognize the legitimacy of those arrangements and couldn't guarantee the safety of anyone drilling for oil in the South China Sea without Chinese consent. As a result international insurers wouldn't touch the projects.

Now China is drilling for oil in the South China Sea. See how the Chinese approach works? It's pretty effective.

As far as the Philippines is concerned, China is going to cripple them economically and make an example out of them. See how this works?

China is even going to drill for oil in the Florida Strait in cooperation with Cuba. See how this works?

If I were Chinese this would all be good news. But I'm not Chinese. I would like to see America assert itself, but then I look at the internal condition of America...and think that perhaps it's not a good idea to tempt fate.

Very simple. Get ICJ to settle the matter.

China won't accept ICJ jurisdiction. It has no reason to do so. China's military puts it in the cat bird seat.

Uncle Sam will more than balance China's military might.

That America is gone. It has been replaced by something else. Americans are simply too divided. Foreign conflicts are now used by the domestic opposition to achieve political advantage. It happened with Iraq. It would happen again. It's best for all parties concerned if America avoids further conflict.

U.S. will not stay idle in the dispute. U.S will go to war at any place where there is oil gushing below the surface.

That world is gone. President Obama can't offend the Chinese because he needs to borrow their money.
