The man who escaped from North Korea's maximum security concentration camp

French daily newspaper Le Monde featured an article about Shin Dong Hyuk, a North Korean man who was born in a North Korea concentration camp where he lived a miserable life until his escape.
The title of the article is Escape from Camp 14. It captures the devastating reality of the North Korean government's violation of human rights.
In the book, Shin vividly describes what his life was like on the camp.
Shin had to witness the execution of his mother and brother after their failed attempt to escape the camp, and Shin's father had to endure merciless torture that eventually took his eyesight.
There were unimaginable violence and torture. People were treated less than animals and were forced into gruesome labor.
Shin said the words love, empathy, and family were unthinkable and meaningless in the camp.
Hitler's death camps and Stalin's gulag are continuing their legacy through North Korea's concentration camps. The North Korean government's propaganda boasting its nation as a utopia and a paradise is outrageous and ridiculous.

I feel empathy for him and this should be featured prominently in all press and media of the world.

An interview with the man who wrote about Shin's story.

North Korea's prison camps: Forgotten victims | The Economist

What is happening in these gulags constitute the worst ongoing human rights crisis going on in the world today. Unfortunately, not a whole lot can be done about them. Whenever, foreign diplomats have the rare chance of talking to North Korean officials the camps area no-go area. Generally, the officials will leave the room if the topic is even broached.

Meh. Escapees from NK's prisons have been in and out in China and South Korea for years. International attention again, is late.

That's better than NO attention. I would like to see NK liberated by SK and all the NK officials slaughtered with the world watching. NK makes Hitler look like an average joe and they are fearless in their disgusting behavior.

I mean, it's ironic to see the world falling over this one case, when there existed thousands more horrific cases years before

Let N. Korea be what it is. Domestic problem unless U.S. wants to engage in its hobby.

no matter how many things i think that we can and should do better here in the US, i am still thankful that i don't live in NK. they have it really hard there mentally, physically, and emotionally. i hope they eventually toss the Kim family, and that the transition is as bloodless as possible.

    Well, sometimes bloodshed is necessary.

I think one of these could toss the entire Kim family, what do you think?

The beautiful B83 (this is a training case, but the real one looks the same) a nuclear weapon with approx. 100 times the destructive force of the bombs dropped on Japan and the most powerful weapon in our current arsenal. This is what NK needs.

Damn I love nuclear weapons. Their incredible destructive force, inside a conventional looking bomb casing, has always kept me in awe.
