I've heard lots of demonizations in the guise of legitimate criticisms on this forum about China. But as with all such guises the true intent of the posters quickly become transparent sometimes even within the starting post itself.
There are lots of criticisms to be made about China, like every other nation China has plenty of skeletons in it's closet. Like all countries this all stems from greed resulting in corruption.
China has the legal code for proper prosecutions of, however in the great leap towards economic prowess in the name of national stability (as was the case with the US in the 1920's) this has led to completely ignoring of the very people's sweat, blood and tears to which this growth has relied upon.
Nothing could be more apparent than the monster Sichuan earthquake that struck in May.
Most people have forgotten, in the US we had our own natural disaster to deal with in the Mississippi flooding Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois - though the damage and deathtoll are not as comparable, they were nevertheless too close to home for any comfort.
Then with the development of presidential candidates and the Olympics, the earthquakes have become but an echo.
For survivors of the earthquake however, that is still the reality of everyday.
Premier Wen and President Hu of China promised the region of quick, efficient governmental response. The entrance by team China with the 9 yr old boy standing at Yao mings knee (literally) seemed to suggest that the nation and leadership was doing everything in it's power to alleviate the strife. During the ceremony the performance showed a sillouette of the great wall being towrn down to display a nation of openess to the outside welcoming everyone abroad with plum blossoms.
Yet as the video below demonstrates, it only seems that the walls are going back up and the same corrupt localities are returning to what they were.
The loses of the families are unrepremendable, however it would be unreconciliable to continue with "business as usual" in the same old corrupt way in particular of infrastructure.
The building codes which China has, need to be strictly enforced, or the lives lost will be in sad vain.
