Best loss of a coin toss ever

Tommy Allsup, the luckiest man in the history of rock and roll dead at 85

Tommy Allsup, guitarist who backed Buddy Holly, Kenny Rogers and others, dies at 85

Thank you very much for this story.

One of the all-time great stories in popular music......... although off an on throughout the years I have heard Waylon Jennings name as the loser as well as Allsup.

But its a tremendous story and reminds me of the Garth Brooks song UNANSWERED PRAYERS in a way........; or maybe the Stones YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT.

The day the music died. :(

Wow, quite a story. I knew the Waylon Jennings angle but not the coin toss. What a weird feeling that must have been, for a while.

It is that. Waylon gave up his seat on the plane to the Big Bopper. Valens and Allsup flipped a coin.

First time I heard this story was a couple weeks ago watching episodes of The Voice. Tommy Allsup's son, Austin, was a contestant.

Rest in peace.
