This is for songs that came out 40 years ago in 1977. There's no particular reason for going back 40 years other than it was a nice, round number and happens to be smack in the middle of the period where disco, punk, metal, funk, pop country, art rock and easy listening made their marks and exploded the music scene.

A little football reference for the day

and one that feels like it's been around forever (and won't go away!!!)

I didn't realize that this one didn't come out until '77

I figured it wouldn't be long before some woman came along and started in with the Bee Gees. Perhaps my most vivid memory of 1977 is the realization that Vinny Barbarino had gone disco. At one point we had pretty much all the girls in school lining the guys up in the auditorium with the express intent of getting us to fully appreciate Saturday Night Fever:lamo

We used to make fun of my baby sister who, incomprehensibly, had discovered the Bee Gees long after their popularity had faded. Would go around singing "I started a joke..." and trying to imitate the accent but would just collapse in laughter. We were sooo mean!

But then the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever came out, and whadaya know--she was right, and we all were wrong.

Still such a great song.
