It's a guilty pleasure I can't explain, but for the second year in a row I am hooked on this danged tv series!

For those who never heard of it, it's a lengthy competition between 250-lb robots with various types of weapons that get into a glassed-in ring and chew/burn/chop each other to death. I know. I didn't realize I had such a bot-violence streak either. :ninja:

These machines are amazing, and cost a bloody fortune to build... and they have to be practically rebuilt after every match!

So I just wondered if I was the only DP'er who really gets a kick out of it. It's on ABC on Thursday night, at 8:00 pm PST.

Love the show.

Yeah! I never watch the show, but I love the concept. I wasted many hours on Robot Rage. Gameplay starts at 0:45

It's pretty cool.

The British invented the show, it was called "Robot Wars" though, the differences between our two cultures and languages are staggering aren't they?

Never heard of it, but I'm interested.

I'l see if I can check it out.

Count me in. Loved the first incarnation and love the reboot.

I honestly didn't know this was still a thing. I remember watching the show in my early teens when it was still on Comedy Central at night. I kind of lost track of it after that, however.

I grew up on the old series.

I love battle bots and robot wars.

My favorite old robot was disector.

Looks like Tombstone is the new #1 seed. Personally, I don't like the guy and hope he gets gutted. But damn... he IS good!

I remember this! It was an older incarnation though, when the robots were much smaller.

I have to look that up again. I'm out and proud about enjoying robots bash each other.

I used to watch it when it was on in the 90's, but I don't do cable anymore, so I don't keep up with the reboot.
It's nice to see that they brought back some solid shows though.

Edit add: It actually originally came out in 2000.
Meh close enough.

They canceled it in the 90's 2002, just brought it back.

Minotaur, the drum spinner from Brazil, scares me with its destructive power.

I hope bronco, the team behind toro and t-minus, survives.

Yep, the guy's a douchecanoe.

I like the design. Simple and compact.

Why anyone would build anything other than a spinning bot is beyond me.

Look at bronco-- it's famous predecessor toro--- sand team mutant robots Diesector.

Those robots can beat spinners

The first video shows Bronco getting obliterated by a spinner. I don't recall Toro. ill look him up.

Yep, and what about Poison Arrow? It's another drum-spinner I think... those are utterly awesome. I'm hoping one of them takes out Tombstone!

The one that makes me /facepalm is Chomp. It looks so goofy and fragile, with it's flimsy extension arms and pointy "hammer"... but she keeps winning, and for the life of me I don't know why!

Love it, Di. All sorts of violence without any harm (except to machinery and wallets).

I'm a BB fan, as well.

On one level, I love the pure violence and destruction. On another level, I'm amazed at the engineering that these machines require...not to mention those that are modular and configurable for whatever kinds of opponents they meet.

It's just plain fun.

Regarding Chomp. The things that Bot has going for it is it's amazing ability to right itself, even though it's shape seems like it works against it...and that devastating spike weapon. In their last fight...with BiteForce...Chomp got that amazingly good/lucky? hit in at the beginning that took out BiteForce's weapon. So, even though BiteForce appeared to control the bout, Chomp was able to get in enough good blows to win the decision.

Oh...just want to add that, even though they weren't very effective this year, I liked that they have allowed drones. It's pretty cool seeing a drone in the cage shooting fire down on the enemy bot. LOL!!

You're right, I thought Bite Force (last year's champ) would eat Chomp alive. He came out flipping her all over the arena... then suddenly she got the perfect position and WHAM. Took out his weapon. Bite Force continued to knock her all over, but without his weapon he was toothless. I wasn't totally surprised by the judges' decision for Chomp. She still had her weapon working and in-tact; he didn't. Man, it pays to be really lucky in this game!

The drones have been fun to watch. I lol'd when Poison Arrow (? I think) rigged a stupid garden rake on his bot, swatted the drone out of the sky, then hit it so hard it blew up in mid-air! Good times, lol.

(raises hand in the back of the class)

I saw them only once and have been addicted ever since.

Hands down the best battle I've seen was Complete Control vs Warhead;

Lighting Complete Control on fire and than that MOVE that Warhead pulls off was, IMO, the greatest moment in BB history.
