Ben Hur Remake

I'll pass.

The original with C. Heston was a classic. This remake I doubt can match what they did in 1959.

I hate remakes. Nine times out of ten they are awful.

What's worse is that this simply shows how little creativity and originality is left in the media.

The original was a 1925 silent movie

Edit: actually that was a remake of a 1907 Ben Hur movie.

Most of the old "classics" are remakes.

I saw your post about the silent film. I don't consider a "soundie" a remake because it allowed for real acting and dialogue. Besides, I said "nine times out of ten." The tenth time is usually like Charlton Heston's "Ben Hur" a better, more fulfilling version than the original.

Im a fan of Jack Huston since he played that badass hitman on Boardwalk Empire ... but this movie doesnt look good. In the chariot sequence he has a 21st Century haircut and wears a sweater? The Romans never called chariot racing a bloodsport- they simply had different values and morals back then. And the only movie/TV show that Ive seen that portrays how the Roman legions actually fight was the first few minutes of HBO's Rome.

i never watch 'remakes' (plagiarism at best, theft at worst) of anything that wasn't in black and white. If the original was solid, there's no need for another. If it sucked....there's no need for another

However, removing the jesus moments from ben hur would make it a damn near perfect movie. I'm sure they won't though

Just watched the trailer. As expected, the only way to amp up the action in the chariot race scene is to **** up the horses more.

I'll pass.

It looks like someone put the "Spartacus" TV series, "Troy," and "A Knight's Tale" in a blender together, and then sprinkled the whole thing over with bad cliches, gratuitous CGI, and inappropriate rock music.

Just... Why?

I honestly don't think that they could possibly miss the point any harder if they deliberately tried.

In fairness, I'm pretty sure that none of the horses in question will actually be real. lol

I realize that, but the idea that anyone finds that entertaining is disturbing IMO.

Pisses me off in action films when innocent bystanders are blown away by the good or bad guys just as 'exciting collateral damage' too.

And I love action movies.

I saw they were doing this some time ago when I was counting up my "Must See" (9) and "Would Not Mind Seeing" (28) movies this year. I noticed Morgan Freeman was in it and nothing else really. If there was going to be such a remake, I would have expected hyper for years before its release if it was going to be promising at all.
I can't bring myself to watch the trailer...

I watch this every Christmas. Looks like they murdered another classic.
