I was thrilled to learn that HBO was making The Magicians, the utterly fantastic Narnian Chronicles/Harry Potter mashup by Lev Grossman (I read all three books). It's a more grown-up take on the Harry Potter theme as the students slowly unravel that the world of Fillory, the not-especially carefully veiled mirror image of Narnia, is real. With the right casting, directing and budget, HBO can just basically print its own money.

Oh, wait, did I write "HBO?" I'm so clumsy. I meant SyFy. Yes, they took a brilliant book series that should have earned every award for science fiction and fantasy retroactively, cast it to hell and basically made it "90210 with Magic."

Screw you, television. Screw you.

That is disappointing. I watched the first couple of episodes and they seemed alright, but I appreciate the recommendation to read the books.

The books are the ****. And that's my professional literary opinion.

Well it could be worse, they could have sold it to MTV. :2razz:
