British rock band Viola Beach reported killed in car crash in Sweden - Yahoo News

Britain’s Foreign Office said five men, which Swedish media reported were the four members and manager of the rock band Viola Beach, were killed when their car crashed in Sweden early on Saturday morning.

Police confirmed the men found dead in a canal in Sodertalje near Stockholm were aged between 20 and 35 and were from Britain. Their car plunged 26 meters from the motorway into the canal when a bridge was open.

“For some reason, this car went through the barriers and actually went under the bridge and into the Sodertalje canal,” a police spokesman said.

“The investigation so far shows no problem with the barrier. It was down and the lights were on. Other cars had stopped by the barrier.”

The band, which came from Warrington, in northern England, was in the Friday night line-up at the ‘Where’s the Music’ festival in Norrkoping, south of Stockholm.

Wow. RIP. I think this could be the first time that an entire band died at one time. All young too. Condolences to the families of the band members.

Here is a sample of their music:

Big shame, they were working hard to establish themselves and due back in the UK for a festival in a couple of months. Really sad story.

R.I.P. Never heard of them before now, but the example you posted seems pretty good.

They were a new band, I think they formed just 2 years ago. Their music is very much like the other indie bands I listen to but the BBC saw fit to give them airtime so I guess they must have seen something promising. Too bad though.

R.I.P. guys.

I like your music.

wow, never heard of them but it still sucks. I think there have been a few cases in history of a complete annihilation of an entire group or team-the loss of the US Figure skating team prior to the 68 Olympics (the USA's only gold medalist in the 68 winter games was Peggy Fleming who had not yet made the team). I think a college Ball team was lost as well in some sort of crash.
