Wood carving is a form of art

I do a little carving myself, but nowhere near the skill level the man in the video has. My wife's grandfather (who died in 1984 at the age of 94) made these types of canes. He made one for every governor of NC while he was alive, and even made them for other politicians, including a few presidents. This type of artwork is very prevalent in Western North Carolina, especially the mountains and foothills.

Anyway, I thought others may like to see a short video of what goes into making one of these canes. The man in the video says it takes him from 40 to 50 hours to complete one cane.

 
Takes remarkable skill and patience/diligence. I look in wonder at what those who can do this achieve.
 
I really envy people who have that kind of skill/talent to create something beautiful like that from scratch.

I also like his workshop. The great outdoors. :)
 
Old cathedrals in Spain are truly something else.

20-50 feet of insanely intricate wordwork, crawling up the walls.
