Anyone else a little excited to watch a few new X-Files episodes coming soon?

I'm hoping they're good, but not betting money on it. I have fond memories of watching that show for years.

I'm probably not going to be able to resist the temptation to check it out. Never cared for the "creature features," but otherwise a big fan of "The X Files."

I will give it a look. I liked the original. Who was your favorite character? I liked the smoking man.

I'm like you in that regard; some episodic monster of the week stuff was okay... Home, Bad Blood, etc... but I watched for the serial alien conspiracy content, and I liked Fight The Future... but then their next movie was just another monster of the week deal.

Because of that, I'm not too terribly interested in the show's return unless they have a really damn good explanation as to how, six years later in 2018, the show is ostensibly still set in normal Washington D.C. (oxymoron?) and not in a post-alien apocalypse situation, which the series finale stated quite explicitly would happen in 2012.

And no matter what explanation they give... it will remind me of - and be much much worse than - the general Tolkien thing of, hey, you just missed this cool thing, now let me describe briefly in a dialogue summary how the ents totally wrecked this orc fortress. That way we can go back to Frodo counting every blade of grass and every pebble on the way to Mordor...

According to the trailer, looks to be very current and hip.

Oh, and if they still play the "Hi, I'm Dr. Dana Scully and I'm skeptical about everything" card after she has witnessed 9 seasons and two movies of bat**** crazy... lol

Current and hip? Well and good, but the fact remains by the timeline the setting should be either post-apocalyptic alien fighting now.

(Also, I said it was currently 2018? Damn I need some caffeine).

Anyway, assuming it's set currently, in the series finale CSM said colonization would take place on 12-22-2012 and there was nothing Mulder could do to stop it.

So I guess he like, stopped it. Wouldn't that be like the big story we should come back to?

I haven't yet been interested enough to Google for a plot synopsis, but the writing's going to have to be really good.

Does leave you wondering. ;) Perhaps this new series will clear the air.

Also, that trailer has CSM.

... lol? Do the aliens just clone this guy or something? He cheated death before multiple times but in "The Truth" we saw him get blown up by missiles. Like, not the area he was in, his body was incinerated.

The Lone Gunmen are listed as recurring characters.

... Also super dead.

Time travel? Alternate universe? I got nothing, man.

If they just try to simply handwave retcon all those deaths... :lamo

I watched it on and off over the years but I wasnt a major fan. I actually liked the creature feature episodes more than the conspiracy stuff because the latter never ended. If they make a commitment to finally reveal all the mystery and bring a conclusion to the show I might be tempted but if they just chicken out like before then forget it.

I watched it on and off. I enjoyed it but I think Fringe was more entertaining.

I agree. It is time for some closure already. Then they can go off on a different path.

Thought the first episode was terribad.

Again, I want to point out that we literally saw the flesh burn off Smoking Man's bones in the series finale...

... and for Mulder to dismiss the entire alien invasion conspiracy as a hoax so easily... when he and the audience have all seen explicit proof... just bad.

I guess that Fight the Future movie never happened... Thanks for wasting my time then, Carter.

Current and hip? Excuse me while i vomit.

This "continuation" has the stench of failure all over it.

Pretty damn good through 2 episodes but moving too fast. Think there are only 6 episodes.

Due to the first episode not coming on until 10:00pm (or later - after football game) I've not been able to watch yet. I'll catch up this weekend.

I can't stay awake until 11:00pm on a Sunday night. :3oops:

So from what I've seen, if you really liked the series before, you'll really like the new shows they've put together.

I still get frustrated when I want one episode to continue on with the previous one, but then it doesn't.
I know that's how it worked before and it's still frustrating for me.

Generally speaking though, nothing feels missing. It's as if they've rehired all the original writers and producers and nobody missed a beat.

I liked the new miniseries.

Episodes 3-5 were just brilliant. That alone makes it a success on the bottom line, IMO.

Yep...we're loving it.
Have not seen the last episode yet.
