Christmas Songs to Soothe the Soul

Fairytale of New York is hands down my favourite Christmas song. Great choice. Not many people in the US seem to have heard of it though. It's style is so different from most Christmas music that when I play it over here people look at me all confused.

Hadn't heard it before but that Dropkick Murphy song is a good'un aswell

In Britain, you know Christmas is getting near when Fairytale appears in the shop muzak rotation. I heard it five times the other day, out shopping. It's sooo dark, yet somehow works.

meanwhile.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean haha. It captures the dysfunctional side of christmas and family which I think everyone gets but isn't in the 'classic' christmas songs you hear.

Also I know plenty of people who don't like it but I've always been a sucker for Band Aid. Just seems to get me going.

At the Luther house, back in the day, this was the guy we listened to for Christmas

Since he left us all this year, I thought we should have at least one song by the king.

I want to be annoyed by the group and the fact that 30-40 millionaires gather to raise 3 million in sales. I want to be bothered by the fact that only 7% of the 23 million raised in 2014 has actually been dispersed. But...I cant. Bob Geldoff's creation has led to approx 193 million in total donations and countless fundraising spinoffs. The music is cheesy. the most recent iteration is criticized for being imperialistic and fostering a negative image of Africa. OK. At least they are doing something. Whatever it is they are doing...at least they are doing something.

Best Christmas song ever. Blues will never let you down.
