Who here couldn't care less about Star Wars?

Oh yeah....Disney would NEVER "play" or manipulate anyone for ......profit.....

How are they playing anyone? They made a movie. You pay to see it. Sounds like a pretty straight-forward business transaction.

Anybody else sick to death already of hearing about Star Wars?????

Yes.

All heretics please reveal yourselves.

We can then cross reference this thread to the HoloNet and an Imperial Inquisitor can be dispatched to... bring you cookies. Nice warm cookies.

I've been hanging out for this since disney purchased lucasfilm in 2012 and announced production would soon begin on Episode 7. I'm not a super nerd to the point I get hung up on who shot first and I didn't cry for years when Hayden Christensen replaced Sebastian Shaw as Anakin’s Force ghost at the end of Return of the Jedi in the re releases, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to loving anything related to SW for as far back as I can remember.

This is pretty much exactly how i am.

It's like the kool-aid runneth over. It's everywhere.

People - You're Being Played. You're being manipulated.

And what the hell is with those nut-job whacko idiots who are camping out for weeks just to see the first showing on opening day?

Honestly - people are f'n crazy!!!

I was already sick of Star Wars when they made the third one. Why they made even more beats the hell out of me.

So the concept of "marketing" and "marketing strategies" is lost on you?

Disney is an absolute juggernaut of marketing strategy designed to get people to think "they have to see it" in order to be:

1) relevant
2) cool
3) modern
4) part of the scene
5) hip

I don't know...pick a word.

In many ways the movies that Disney makes are simply vehicles for selling merchandise. Again, Disney sets the bar for manipulating people into buying what they sell.

I'm just sad they scrapped the wonderful Timothy Zahn novels as backstory... Michael Stackpole did great work, too.

I suppose it couldn't be helped after all that Yuzahn Vong garbage obliterated the old EU, though. And you'd never get "Chewie, we're home" with Chewie having been on a planet when it exploded.

Not at all. I think the definition of being played is lost on you. You'd be played if you paid for something as advertised and the company didn't follow through. I'm pretty sure anyone who pays for a ticket will get to see the movie. Disney is holding up their end of the business transaction.

I wouldn't say I don't care, but I'm 53 and I've never seen any Star Wars movie but I may go see this one... my wife likes the series especially cause of Harrison Ford :2wave:

Yah what's up with folks camping out like they do when a new Apple phone comes out... silly!
and indeed, what's up with folks camping out for the new Apple phone?

If you're manipulated into buying something, you've been manipulated.

Whether or not you're happy with the purchase doesn't change anything.

Star Wars is almost like Frozen, but for a slightly older crowd.

#1) make a movie
#2) hype the ever livin' feces out of it for months
#3) turn the entire thing into almost cultural phenomena
#4) mass produce a crap-ton of merchandise and sign deals with fast food places as well as other products
#5) hype the every livin' feces out of all of it for months

#6) sit back and rake in the money

Check on all the above. However, nobody is being manipulated into seeing the movie. Disney is not controlling or influencing the masses unfairly. They're advertising what they have to offer. You want their product or you don't. if you pay to see the movie and then you see it, Disney has fulfilled their obligation to you.

I will see it, probably when it hits the cheap theaters. Not in a big rush and certainly don't want to stand in line/fight crowds to see a movie.

If you're under the age of about 40 years old, Disney has been manipulating you your whole life.

I could care less about Star Wars. My young son, however, cares very deeply about it. I guess that makes me care about it enough to watch it, even though I dont really want to.... .

Everyone. That's what the media does.
It manipulates people into thinking they "have to see it" or they'll be missing out on something huge.

I've been watching Star Wars movies since May of 1977.

There hasn't been a good one released since May of 1980.

I've seen all of them, even the four crappy ones, dozens of times each, the first two over 100.

If this one is as good as the first two I will be missing out on something huge.

The media has nothing to do with it.

I have tickets for Saturday.

I don't feel that way.

I might get around to seeing it once it's out on DVD, depending on what else is in my Netflix queue.

I hope I never get lame like the OP.

star wars isn't it for me, but once you get so lame that things don't excite you..what is left really?

I remember camping out for concert tickets. someone could rightly call me out for wasting my time just as the OP did. I don't see this as materially different.

The Star Wars series were kinda mediocre for me, and I have no interest to watch this latest series.

#1) you might wish to cultivate a sense of humor #2) a concert is usually a one time event, or maybe once every few years, a movie get's shown 3 or 4 times a day for weeks/months on end, in multiple theaters across town #3) how do you sleep at night knowing so much about people you've never met and never held a conversation with
#4) I wouldn't be surprised to hear the concert you slept out for tickets for was the Captain & Tennille, or perhaps Donnie Osmond

so you think you are superior to people based on their interest in music and other entertainment.

I find you extremely immature
