Song covers: the original and remake(s)

the original of this song is debated as to who originally did it. Its been covered by some top acts including Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin but I don't think a single cover did more to make an artist famous on a world stage than this one. Noel Redding's brilliant bass line is often overlooked in this song-a song many rank as one of the ten greatest from the entire history of American rock-but its almost as brilliant as Jimi's lead.
