Supergirl Feminist or Antifeminist?

great show-the writer (Josh Whedon) was brilliant. that show had several layers in it and several went beyond hs kids.

Agreed. "Hush" and "Once More, with Feeling" were some of my favorite episodes. The episode where her mother dies, "The Body", was brilliant and gut wrenching. Whedon's decision to not use a sound track in that episode made it very raw.

Eh Xena was in the same realm as Walker Texas Ranger. It was one of those feel good shows where its super cheesy and the good guy always wins.

Like the Mormon's version of a risky action show.

... What? :wassat1:

Alright, I watched a couple episodes. I like it. I mean, it doesn't make my top 10 favorite shows of all time or anything like that but it is enjoyable. I don't think it necessarily has a feminist message but it is good to have some shows where the women are the heroes and don't always need men coming to the rescue. If that is feminist, and maybe it is, then great.

I haven't watched it, the ads it looked awful and have too many other things to watch to spend time on something I'll probably not like.

From the reviews of the first episode, it sounds like it was a bit..if not feminist at least bit heavy on "identity," (and felt quite a few review were too). Seemed if they tone things down a bit only the folk who hate anything feminist would whine.

Not really what I meant to talk about anyways (as someone who only checked out comments/reviews). What I noticed, and probably why the media loved it as well as some viewers, it was different. It was, supposedly, a bright cheery type show which does go against the trend of gritty/dark (and procedurals). Critics love that with anything, and hard to blame them considering I'd probably get burnt out on watching the same thing all the time too.

In other words, I'd expect critics to find at least okay, even if it was an awful show.

Im prolly just projecting but those are the "risky" shows my Mormon family used to watch. Their extreme shows to watch were Texas Ranger, Xena, and X-files. Everything else was Disney and PC.

The X-files was pretty creepy sometimes. I liked the stand alone episodes the best, especially the earlier ones. The later ones seemed to be more of a joke or comedy routine. I didn't care much for the big government/alien/cloning conspiracy themed episodes. Xena was beautiful, but I really liked her very pretty friend. Don't really remember a lot about those shows.

OH. Ok I see.

lol

For some reason Sci-Fi was like a religious buffer-zone for my family. "It's okay to talk about sex . . . as long as it's in Star Trek." And beyond that everything was 'no'.

EXTREMELY clumsily.

I generally think most decent shows (not greats like Breaking Bad) don't find their legs until season 2, so I'll give it time. But thus far, not impressed.

It is possible that the writers don't know in which direction to take the show yet.

With some shows they analyze it after the first season to make it better.

It might get better with time.

I am sure the responsible parties are taking boards like this into account with how they are going to write the show.

I thought Supergirl died decades ago in the comics. Anyway...

What is the deal with all these lame superhero shows? The acting is terrible, the storylines are terrible, the characters are terrible, the introductions are annoying, and well, they're just down right ****ty.

I like it.

I am trying my best but I don't know where they are going with it.

The star SNL actor is extremely annoying and the title is a lie.

OK. I've watched a few episodes including tonight's and other than a pretty girl it has nothing going for it. Carry on.
