Fear the walking dead

Yeah... Gotta say, I'm not a fan of how this one turned out. The first three episodes were good, but after the Guard showed up it just became an excuse to have a giant anti-military circle jerk.

For that matter, what the Hell was up with the finale? They unleash 2000 walkers on a military outpost full of civilians, and (presumably) on their unsuspecting neighbors as well, while they turn tail and run.

These are supposed to be the good guys? :screwy

I agree, that wasn't the best idea. However, the military was planning (at least what fans were hypothesising) to kill the civilians in their care at the compound.

Yep. This. I think when it comes to the big showdown with the military it was definitely an us vs them thing.

The show really did not very well reflect the professionalism and capabilities of the reservists and guardsmen I have worked with. But then...the writers and directors (and even actors) think its totally legit to pump the imaginary action on a double barrel shotgun. So...its not very likely they are connected with military folks.

But the "heroes" just abandon them all there as well, helpless to the zombie horde bearing down on them. The Guard was also planning on at least evacuating the patients in the Hospital, which wasn't able to happen because the base was being overrun. That's not even going into what's probably going to happen to all of the unsuspecting people they left behind in their neighborhood when the herd eventually arrives there either.

Basically, the supposed "heroes" of the story made things catastrophically worse for everyone but themselves. They seem more like villains to me.

Lol. Loved all the dip****s running around with their collars velcroed up, or wearing their covers like baseball caps (indoors, no less).

For that matter, where the Hell did some nobody 1st LT get a .50 sniper rifle? :lamo

This whole season honestly felt a lot like a throw back to the anti-military paranoia and "all soldiers are evil baby-killers" attitudes that were so prevalent in post-Vietnam era Hollywood, IMO.

Really, the more I think about it, they kind of dropped the ball here all the way around. They introduced the Guard too damn soon.

What they should have done was stuck with the "break down of law and order" theme for the first five episodes, while gradually ratcheting up the zombie factor throughout. They could then introduce the Guard as "the cavalry" saving everyone's ass in the mid-season finale.

The second half of the season should have dealt with the Guard falling apart, and it really should've done so with at least a couple of POV characters giving us their perspective on things. Fights with not only the dead, but violent gangs of living looters, and mounting casualties, all while they slowly but surely begin to lose contact with higher command, could give them a convincing motive for turning to more and more draconian measures of controlling the civilian population. Hell! They could even show us what happened in the arena, and have it be due to sick or rioting civilians allowing the infection to turn people into zombies without anyone noticing until it was too late, which is why the Guard starts detaining and executing "high risk" people.

What the writers actually wound up doing was simply too rushed, and too one-sided. It also relied far too heavily on "Well, duh! Of course they're evil! They're the Government/Military!" type attitudes to justify what was happening.

I was very disappointed with Fear the Walking Dead.
I knew I was in trouble when the synopsis was "a dysfunctional family...".

I mean, there is a ****ing day Z going on, and we have to have a dumb as rocks family with so much drama that it strains credibility even for a drama about a dysfunctional family? Is Armageddon not enough?
I mean, the early days of the zombie apoc...can there be more of a ripe fertile ground for writing interesting, intense, well, anything?

But instead we have dumber than dumb kids. The girl playing dressup and wearing short shorts, the dumb brother in law "they are doing something important here, and I'm filming it!!" kid trying to join in on a riot. The heroin addict, good lord at least has he has an excuse right? And he's like the least dumb...addicted and corrupted sure, but ends up smarter than the others. And the two parents, good grief. Mom is a flake, but is supposed to be a counselor, which is maddening...she's a mess. What about that "we're in a hurry I'm going to the school, hurry back". She strolls around, hand fights some zombies, yawn...I suppose I'll drop this kid off at his house, mosey on back to my house...in a hurry? Nah, it was a stroll through danger alley! And the Dad, icing on the cake. An irrational pacifist, with no leadership skills, or apparently father skills, or husband skills, they trashed his character poor actor. He is in a tiny box of incompetence.

I feel nothing for any of those characters better than pity at this point :(

I'm hating, but I'll watch it again. Walking dead had a weak season 1-2, maybe not this weak, but sometimes it takes a bit to get their sea legs, and do a post mortem on what worked and what didn't. Ever hopeful.

I agree with everything you posted.

The first season of FTWD was like Season 2 of TWD: a f-ing soap opera and the zombies were an afterthought!

Yep, me and my wife were saying the same thing, season two of TWD was awful and almost lost us, to be honest. Glad we stayed on though.
