I hate this song. Love the melody and instrumentation but just hate "If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal/If her daddy's poor, just do like you feel." Arrrgh, hate it.

I took that line as an ironic criticism of classism, inequality in law enforcement and the arrogance of the upper class. I don't think they meant it to be approval of date rape of low income women by upper class men. (As I recall they were British.The Brits were allowed to discuss classism in public, unlike in the USA)
