Do you remember this?

I wonder how many people listen to songs w/o really listening to the words... I know I fall into that category. Now knowing the words I want to beat that guy with a bat.

I mentioned this very thing to my teenage daughters the other day. Kids are the worst at not listening to the lyrics. I was guilty of that too. But the girls like country music and this song called "Girl in a Country Song" came on. Now I am not a fan of country music, but I remember hearing the other day that a lot of male country music singers were pretty upset about this song and what it implied. I listened to it the other day in the car with the girls, and said, "Well now I know why they are pissed. This girl pretty much read their meters, and they are all butthurt because she called them on it." Well the girls didn't realize it, until I told them to listen to the lyrics. Their eyes lit up, and they smiled and said, "Yeah, I can see why the men would be angry."

Not here. With modern music, the lyrics are the most important part. That's where the message is being sent, and it indicates the heart and mind of the writer. I've always listened to the lyrics, and the singers whose lyrics I love, are my favorite singers. I have found that if I don't necessarily like the sound of a song, on first listen, but the lyrics are really good, I will come to love the music after listening a couple of times.
