That's true of the last two, but the first Matrix movie is fantastic for substance. But only if you're knowledgeable on about 500 different philosophical and religious ideas from all over the world. You'll need knowledge of everything from Plato's Allegory of the Cave to Gnostic Christianity to really appreciate the movie.

    Shawshank Redemption

Almost any "horror" flick that didn't come out between 2005 and 2008. They just don't do anything for me. Most of the scares come from the loud noises or "pop up" scenes, not the context of the film itself.

    I never saw it either.

Yeah. Well, I never really was into mob movies either, and Hubs and I rented them one long, snowy weekend, and I fell in love with them. More than Godfather, though, is Schindler's List. It's more than a history movie. It's just a really good movie. There's a strong storyline that goes along with it.

Well that explains it. I'm not a philosopy major, and I know very little about other religions.

    The LOTR series.
Star Wars, recently watched the first two, but then looked up the plot on a fan wiki and hated it so I stopped there.
I only watched the last Star Trek movie.

    Can't think of anything else.
I've highlighted the ones worth seeing.
    LOTRs is a must see.

    Fast and the Furious
    Goodfellas
    Usual Suspects
    Memento
    American History X

Some I never will (musicals from my teenage years) and some I just never got round to.
Fightclub is awesome. In the end, they take down the entire credit system. Sheer brilliance.

    E.T
    Doctor Zhivago
    Mary Poppins
    The Jungle Book
    The Sting
    Bambi
    Titanic
    Ben Hur
    Jurassic Park

Other popular films I have not seen are Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, and the LOTR series.
    Damn, those are classics.

Good Will Hunting is actually decent.

No substance? Holy crap! I wrote an entire paper on The Matrix in Philosophy class. There are so many concepts. I'm not terribly surprised by your opinion, however.

Key words: Philosophy class. I'm not interested in philosophy.

The little boy, Thomas J. dies in this clip.

Macaulay Culkin is way underrated as an actor. Which reminds me: The Good Son is another great movie.
