What Was The Last Movie You Watched and Rate it!

Spectre...

The last, thankfully, Bond film for Daniel Craig, and hopefully for this franchise. Spectre has everything,. but nothing new, not even the gag lines, which are few. As Bond girls go Léa Seydoux is neither gifted nor all that good to look at, she sort of grimaces through the whole thing.

We expect the best effects from a Bond flick, and in that department Spectre does not disappoint but be prepared to really have to work at suspension of disbelief....Bond gets more out of a Twin Otter than any bush pilot could ever have hoped, and that's before he deliberately crashes it into a forest and then...well you get the idea.

Newcomer action figure Dave Bautista does well at grunting and emoting evil as the villain's henchman, but here again we can be thankful he has but one word in the entire script.

Over all it's worth the price of admission on a senior's discount if they throw in the popcorn.

Two out of five stars

I agree it was average but I liked the blonde. Im flexible like that.

Ah.....suspect all you like, but the story of the survival of Hugh Glass was very real

There were some embellishments, but the 200 mile journey across the Rockies is documented in history.

I dont doubt that he was real nor that what happened in general. However I do doubt that it was as harsh as he and others claim. All involved had a motive to embellish the story as it meant money and fame for them and others, not to mention there might have been moral issues and illegalities involved which they dont want out.

Clearly you have never read even one sentence from literature documenting this event. I also suspect you didn't see the movie either.

Good summary.

Last one? I heard that back in the 1970's.

I have read the story.. but it is just that.. a story, a myth. David and Golaith is a story, but is it true? Has it been embellished? What do you think?

Trudno byt bogom (2013) - IMDb

PROS:
- wildly imaginative
- strange
- interesting

CONS:
- very slow pace
- 3 hours long
- gruesome (not for the squeamish)

This movie is based on an old Russian sci-fi novel. Apparently the director spent 6 years filming this but he died before he could complete the editing. His widow apparently finished the movie for him.

What's it about? Its set on an alien planet that is populated by humans. And this world is still in a medieval dark age because its controlled by a religious group called the order, and they eliminate intellectuals so that the inhabitants continue to live in superstition and outdated beliefs. 30 scientists from earth were sent to investigate and to try to create a Renaissance but they failed due to mysterious reasons.

This is a very long movie- the run time is 3 hours and you need to be in the right mood in order to have the patience to watch the whole thing. Its also quite gross and is one of the most disgusting movies I've ever seen. PROTIP: Do not eat anything before or during the movie- you're liable to throw up. But the whole thing is fascinating from start to finish. If youre into weird movies that you wont forget then watch it. I dare you. 8/10

Saw The Big Short, great film, they really made complex finacial dealings understandable

Ex Machina. Awesome edge of your seat kind of film.

Joe Dirt 2.

Huge disappointment. The first one had heart, this one had tired fart jokes recycled from the first film. I wasn't exactly expecting something brilliant but I couldn't even make it through the whole movie. Maybe it had a great ending but I doubt it.

I agree. Great film.

Just saw that this past weekend. It gave us a different perspective on the individuals who played key roles in the creation of the instruments used to bring down the housing mortgage industry controlled by corrupt the banks/investment banks/hedge funder who raped America of jobs, homes, pensions, investments, etc...along with other countries.

The sad thing is - Congress has done ZERO to prevent what happened between 1999 and 2008 from happening again. And the "Too Big too fail" are still protected at the taxpayer's expense. I think with a little research we'd find subprime lending is alive and waiting in the wings to take our nation down again (along with others).

Just saw The Martian on DVD.
3 words: Damn...Good...Movie!

13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

Well'p... It's a war movie by Michael Bay. For better and worse, it lives up to that reputation.

The Good:

- To his credit, Bay actually tones his usual antics down a bit. This helps the film feel more serious than his usual fair.

- It's certainly a fun watch, and the battle scenes are incredibly well done (if maybe just a tad heavy on the pyrotechnics).

- The cast is great.

- The camaraderie between the main cast is well portrayed, as are the general attitudes and mindsets which tend to go along with former military.

- It manages not to be too heavy handed on the political side of things.

The Not So Good:

- Again, while no where near as extremely so as his usual fair, the film is still undeniably somewhat corny, feeling more like a slick summer action flick - with requisite oneliners and macho stereotypes - than a war movie indicative of something which took place in the real world, per se.

- The narrative is somewhat clunky. Most of the first twenty or so minutes of the film could have probably been cut.

- Whenever Bay tries to be overtly dramatic, it comes off feeling a bit like melodrama. That can be distracting.

Overall, I actually liked the film a lot more than I thought I would. I'd certainly say it's worth a watch. Just bear in mind that some of it is going to come off feeling a lot more like "Armageddon" or "The Rock" than "Black Hawk Down," "Saving Private Ryan," or "Fury."

It actually reminds me a bit of "American Sniper" in this regard. Both films had an inherent "artificialness" to them. However, where that film felt overly "sanitized" and sentimental, this one feels like it's been soaked in action movie kerosene. lol

The Revenant (2015) - IMDb

PROS:
- Leo Di Caprio
- Tom Hardy
- Bear and Indian attacks
- cinematography

CONS:
- predictable plot
- uneven pacing

This has the same story as Man in the Wilderness (1971) - IMDb, an older western movie from the 70's with Richard Harris and John Huston. But while the earlier movie was more of a character study of a man finding himself and ultimately forgiving his enemies, this new version is a plot-driven revenge tale. All the actors are pretty good especially Leo and Tom. The setting and production values are stunning so the immersion factor is excellent. The only peeve I have with it is the predictable plot- but then again Ive seen so many Westerns that I can pretty much tell whats gonna happen if its in that genre. 8/10

The Paper Chase-

A perplexing film. The atmosphere encompasses most of everything romantic about academic films. The "chase" as it were, for mastering a subject, the relationships found between students and educator, and the crushing defeat of rebuke from your mentor.

But this film doesn't have much semblance for heroes. The students are cut-throat and two-faced. Our protagonist is at once charismatic and hopelessly self-centered. When he has a relationship with the professor's daughter, before he even knows her identity he is only able to relate to his own experience. He is perhaps most comfortable as a traditional intellect, but with the drive for success that could be understood with the pro-capitalist atmosphere of the 1980s. It is this self-centered mess that is his greatest undoing.

The daughter, meanwhile, isn't given much of an opportunity to express herself and her own view of the world. It's all about him. But then again, she's also emblematic of the 1960s and 1970s counterculture, with its white affluence eschewing all semblance of forms and norms (or at least, the ones not granting material human comfort). She doesn't like lawyers, but is hopelessly surrounded by them, first by her father, then by her estranged husband and then by our protagonist. She wants to be free from it all, seemingly especially commitment.

Pride Prejudice and Zombies.

Surprisingly very enjoyable. Very well done.

Good God, Hank. Quit trying! You're not an actor . . . and this movie was filled with some of your pure raging rant content. I'm surprised you didn't write it.

Deadpool (2016) - IMDb

Pros:

- 4th wall humor
- satirizes superhero movies
- Colossus
- Teenage Negasonic Warhead

Cons:

- slow middle
- predictable plot
- quick, confusing editing during fight scenes

OK, it's really a no-holds barred R-rated satire on superhero movies. The jokes come flying fast and furious, not all of them work and it does take a bit of knowledge of previous superhero movies for people to understand every bit of humor. The movie never takes itself seriously and its a welcome and fresh take on the genre itself. It does slow down in the middle though since its mostly an origin story.

The supporting cast are good. I especially liked the spotlight on Colossus- he is a major member of the X-Men and those crappy Fox movies never gave him any screen time and he is pretty damn good in this. NTW is also very very good as is Gina Carano playing one of the baddies. Ryan Reynolds is okay playing DP but he does try a bit too hard and his character isnt very likable unless youre a teenager who loves wise-cracking assassins killing people in every which way possible- it does tend to wear down a bit at times.

All in all though, its worth the money simply because of the superhero movie bashing. 7/10

Spotlight (2015) - IMDb

PROS:
- Michael Keaton
- Liev Schrieber
- John Slattery
- Mark Ruffalo

CONS:
- underwhelming
- pacing problems

A good movie about the scandals of the Catholic church and child abuse that happened in Boston. Good performances from all the actors involved though I felt at times that the whole movie seemed artificial and it felt like they were pushing for drama that wasn't there. All in all, its still worth watching though my favorite newsroom movie is still All the President's Men (1976) - IMDb

Deadpool!!! So nice, I saw it twice, one day after the other!

Awesome movie. The humor pretty much all works, as far as I'm concerned. Some of the origin/love story elements drag a bit on a second viewing, but they were interesting enough for the first watch-through.

Overall: 9 out 10

This was probably the best outcome, and best film, we could have ever hoped for focusing on this character.

LOL I cant believe you watched it twice.

I have to admit though the adaptation is spot on, it's just like the comic book.

But it's got like, no plot- guy who's a d*** finds out he's got cancer, becomes a superhero and then decides to kill the guy who made him. I hope they put more of a story in the sequel.

I'm dragging the mrs to this movie tonight... she has absolutely no clue what it will be about. She asked me if it's some Clint Eastwood movie or something.
