Alright so I've been hearing a lot lately that the majority of blacks are only voting for Obama because he's black. This is one of the lines supporters of the former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Republicans love to repeat to much. I love it. It's really an interesting comment to say the least. Why? Not because it's not based on any solid data but on pure racial profiling. Well blacks are only voting for him because he's black. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Allan Keyes and many other blacks have run for the last 30 years and have all failed.

NONE of them have gotten even close to 90% of the black vote and yet somehow a Democrat always seems to get at least that much. Why is this? Did 90% of blacks vote for Kerry because he was black? Did 90% of blacks vote for Gore because he was black? Did 90% of blacks for Clinton because he was black? The moment these questions are asked quickly the theory of Obama winning the black vote because he's black loses all touch with reality.

Then we have the states Obama won during the campaign. Obama beat Hillary on 95%+ Caucasian states and yet lost in states with some of the heaviest black populations in the country. I mean seriously people Iowa? Connecticut? Missouri?

The 90% number is certainly ridiculous, but there are A LOT of black people that I have heard myself say that the only or at least the #1 reason they are voting for Barack is because of color.

Maybe 60%?

Well, blacks are only 14% of the population, and a lot of that 14% are ineligible to vote, either because they're not old enough, or because they are currently incarcerated, or because they have felony convictions, which prevent citizens from voting- forever- in many states.
Either way, the total population of eligible black voters, even if united somehow, would not have been enough to effect a win for Jackson, Sharpton, or any other generally unpopular candidate.

I don't care whether blacks are voting for Obama because he's black, because they think his wife's hot and his kids are cute, because they think his ears cause him to look endearingly like Dumbo, because they care a great deal about the global, environmental, domestic, and financial issues facing this nation and think Obama's proposed solutions conform more closely to their beliefs than his rival McCain's, or for some other reason entirely.

I'm just glad they're voting for him, because I want him. We need him.
But it's to be expected; even if Obama weren't half-black, most blacks who vote are democrats. At least around here.

On the issues Senator Obama and Senator Clinton were very similiar, yet during the primaries Senator Obama earned in the neighborhood of 90% of the black vote. So was it on differences in issues that matter to the black voter or race?

I have a little test going on at my job......I ask black customers who they are supporting and then why. They all said Obama so far and this has never happened with Clinton, Gore, or Kerry.

Thus far they have parroted the change mantra. Only a handful could explain why they supported Obama and then they gave the talking points.

I have not doubt that there are many blacks who are voting for Obama because he's black. The rest would vote for the demoncrats despite color.
