Re: Have we recreated slavery?

These are the various definitiions of slavery that I found.

A state of subjection like that of a slave: He was kept in slavery by drugs.

severe toil; drudgery.(Prison is toil and drugery)

slav·er·y (slā'və-rē, slāv'rē) Pronunciation Key
n. pl. slav·er·ies

The state of one bound in servitude as the property of a slaveholder or household. (this one is beautiful. It binds a man to a household)

The practice of owning slaves. (women own men)

A condition of hard work and subjection: wage slavery.

slavery

noun
1. the state of being under the control of another person (a man is under the control of a woman)
3. work done under harsh conditions for little or no pay (this is the best one yet. In prison, the prisoner is given little pay)

Slavery

Slav"er*y\, n.; pl. Slaveries. [See 2d Slave.]

1. The condition of a slave; the state of entire subjection of one person to the will of another. (subjection of males to the will of females)

2. A condition of subjection or submission characterized by lack of freedom of action or of will. (males often lack the freedom to drive, the freedom to get a passport, the freedom to not be harassed for support even if ill, injured, or laid off)

I thought the definitions would sound harsher than they do.

The definitions seem to simply mean that one does hard work for the benefit of another ... that clearly sounds like the Child Support System, and especially once the person is put in jail without due process.

Re: Have we recreated slavery?

I think I am starting to see something else...

Why would you keep a man's payment obligation at his former income level for child support even if he is unemployed?

Why would you take away his driver's license?

Why take away his business license?

Why point him in jail and keep the child support juice flowing?

So that his only option to make money is criminal activity and thus then he may even get a longer jail sentence, more slave labor.

A man desperate to catch up on child support may sell drugs just until he catches up but if he's caught, selling drugs now has minimum of five years...

At least five years of slave labor.

Just a suggestion, posting 5 posts before anyone responds is not encouraging anyone to debate this issue. You are throwing everything in at once. If you want people to debate you, focus on a concise point and work from their with them. If you make long posts back to back people may accuse you of "muddying the waters" or "ranting".
