Socialism to the rescue
A "rose" is a "rose" is a "rose".....
"Injecting capital" is "nationalization", just as surely. The government of the United States of America is nationalizing a very large part of the banking system. What could be more "socialist" than nationalizing the banks?? How very ironic... As the little boy cried, on seeing the Emperor's new clothes, "L'Empéreur est nu!" |

Re: Socialism to the rescue
Of course, there is one big difference between European socialism and the new American variety:
European countries tax the rich to help the needy poor. The New American Socialists tax the poor to help the needy rich...

Re: Socialism to the rescue
Socialism saps the drive to succeed from the people. I mean why work hard to start a company and be a success if the government is going to tax you into oblivion. We allready have the second highest taxes on business in the world. And if you are a worker why would you aspire to raise yourself up if the government is going to do everything for you.
The anology of the 30 year old at home on his parents couch wasting away because his parents provide everything for him comes to mind. Socialism creates a society of deadbeat loafers. Is this what we want in America? It appears we dont have a choice. Our politicians are on the fast track and we are about to elect a socialist president with a socialist congress allready in place. Say good by to the late great United States of America and hello to the Socialist Republic of America. |

Do you actually know anything about socialism as it is practiced today in Europe... where in most countries a Socialist Party often alternates with a Conservative Party? Do you actually have any grounds for spouting such nonsense, or is it just a knee-jerk reaction to the word "socialism"? "Second highest taxes on business"... What a joke! That may be true for your local Mom-and-Pop hardware store (if such a thing exists any more). But no self-respecting capitalist corporation pays taxes, for God's sake! That's what Delaware is for... The true success of corporate America is that it has so indoctrinated the general public that they actually believe the propaganda that you are repeating... Poor little Enron, poor little ExxonMobile, poor little Lehman Bros, poor little AIG (and, to quote Cher, "the beat goes on")... such pitiful welfare cases must be saved by taxing Joe Sixpack just a little bit more. And good ol' Joe, he'll pay and pay and pay... and he'll tell everyone how proud he is that there ain't no ****ing socialism in his America... Does anyone remember the "trickle down" theory? If the already ultra-rich get even richer, some of that money must inevitably trickle down to Joe Sixpack. Funny thing happened on the way......... But Joe voted twice for the people who were feeding him voodoo economics, and now he's planning on voting for the Moose Lady, 'cause things is jus' so fine in the US of A!

America the Uncompetitive - WSJ.com Why do you think so many business are moving overseas. Yes it is partially due to cheap labor but it is mainly due to taxes. Don't you want American companies to be successful? You act as if it is wrong for companies such as Exxon Mobile to do well. Did you know that Exxon Mobile has a profit margin of 8.9%. That is below the average profit margin of the majority of American companies. Do some research before you spread your socialist propaganda. |

ExxonMobile, first half 2008, took in M$ 254,926, and owes M$ 19,828 in income taxes. Maybe my calculator is busted, but that looks like a little under 8% to me... ExxonMobil pays World Record $32 Billion in Taxes during Q2 | Prodromus The company also paid a little less than that in sales taxes (so did you) and a little more than that in "other taxes" (so did you), for a grand total of $ 61 billion. That sure is a lot of taxes! It "only" leaves $ 194 billion in income....... Poor little ExxonMobile... OK for the research?? As for "spreading socialist propaganda"... exactly where did I do that? .

Re: Socialism to the rescue
Socialism caused this financial crisis! If the government had just stayed out of the private banking business this never would have happened.
But it was important to the socialists to help minorities get home loans. And it caused the health care crisis and the tuition crisis. We have to "help" students and sick people. Well, here we are. Good work, liberals! |

Re: Socialism to the rescue
The European system of socialization is only a recipe for a European style economy. See high structural unemployment, not to mention unemployment being especially pronounced amongst non-white minorities (more pronounced than in the U.S., see much harsher racism than is found in the U.S.). Not to mention slower growth, lower per-capita income, and add that to the distinctly progressive xenophobia more prevalent in Europe than in the States (with universities that generally lag in research production, and educational quality again compared to the U.S.). What more could you possibly want? It's not as though all policies stemming from Europe are bad, it's just that the results of most of their economic policy (taken over a longer time-frame) hasn't resulted in many economic measures being better when compared to the U.S. Europe's supposed progressiveness is mostly a joke.
