Touche, but it's one thing if someone posts multiple times in a thread and says nothing substantive. It's another thing when someone wants to make a lighthearted joke.

It's pretty easy to learn how to use e-mail. If I can do it, anybody can.

Exactly, MM.

You're right it is easy, in fact it seems even McCain has actually started to learn about using the internet and email. So in any case, this oh so important hot button issue which will sway so many voters has been addressed by the good folks at FactCheck.org and not surprisingly when it comes to the arguments coming from both sides..the truth is somewhere in between.

FactCheck.org: Is McCain unable to use a computer because of war injuries?

Q:
Is McCain unable to use a computer because of war injuries?
Is it true that John McCain's injuries as a result of being tortured as a POW are the real reason he does not send e-mails (using a keyboard is painful for him)? Or is Barack Obama's ad portraying him as a computer luddite true?
A:
He can type. But using a keyboard for long periods is uncomfortable for him. He says he's been an "illiterate" on a computer. But he says now he's learning to use the Internet.
The Obama-Biden campaign is airing an ad titled "Still," which says that McCain "admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer" and that he "can't send an e-mail." The ad ridicules McCain as being old-fashioned and "out of touch."

A few news organizations and a number of conservative commentators have countered that it's not that McCain doesn't know how, it's that he can't use a computer because of injuries sustained as a prisoner of war. They say the Obama ad is a low blow. As the conservative blog Hot Air said, "Making fun of a war hero’s severe injuries — smooth move."

The truth is in between.

McCain isn't discussing the matter with reporters, but a McCain campaign official describes this account by ABC News correspondent Jake Tapper as "accurate." Tapper wrote Sept. 14:
ABC's Jake Tapper: [T]yping on a regular keyboard for any sustained period of time bothers McCain physically. He can type, he occasionally does type, but in general, the injuries he sustained as a POW – ones that make it impossible for him to raise his arms high enough to comb his hair – mean that small tasks make his shoulders ache, so he tries to avoid any repetitive exercise. Again, it's not that he can't type, he just by habit, avoids when he can, repetitive exercise involving his arms. He does if he has to, as with handshaking or autographs.
This matches up pretty well with what was reported by other news organizations eight years ago, when McCain was running against George W. Bush for the Republican nomination.

A Boston Globe article from March 2000 said that "McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes."

And a Forbes magazine story from May 2000 elaborated further, saying:
Forbes, May 2000: His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.
Slate.com also said in 2000 that "because of his war injuries, he is limited in his ability to wield a keyboard."

More recent reports indicate that he is actually learning to use a computer. In fact, McCain told The New York Times in July that he'll soon be up to speed on using the Internet. In January 2008, Yahoo! News asked McCain whether he used a Mac or PC, and McCain said, "Neither. I am an illiterate that has to rely on my wife for all of the assistance that I can get." But two months ago in an interview with The New York Times, McCain said:
NY Times: What websites if any do you look at regularly?

McCain: Brooke and Mark show me Drudge, obviously, everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge. Sometimes I look at Politico. Sometimes RealPolitics, sometimes.

(Mrs. McCain and Ms. Buchanan both interject: "Meagan's blog!")

McCain:
Excuse me, Meagan's blog. And we also look at the blogs from Michael and from you that may not be in the newspaper, that are just part of your blog.

NY Times:
But do you go on line for yourself?
McCain: They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don't expect to be a great communicator, I don't expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need - including going to my daughter's blog first, before anything else.
Does all this make McCain "out of touch" with modern technology and communication methods? Is the Obama ad unfair? You be the judge.

Computer's are intimidating if you haven't had a need to use them. I had to learn them at work, but mostly learned about e-mail, and all that, on my own, after the husband and daughter acted like I was totally getting on their precious nerves.

I would bet McCain to a degree, was just being modest, and he probably knows more than he lets on. Anyway, don't ever act like you don't know something cause it will come back to bite you.

Re: McCain doesn't do email ad

Very good Sir Loin. This must really be bugging you, huh? It is annoying, isn't it, when the other side says things that you believe are not true? Arrggghhh!!! Sort of what non Palin supporters feel about her constant "Bridge to nowhere" soundtrack. Just listen to her answer Bozo Hannity's question about that bridge in his recent interview of her. She came about as close as you can without actually lieing! She is pathetic! Or should I say she's looks like a pathological liar. Watch how easily she lies. Palin to Hannity: I Killed the Bridge to Nowhere! - Palin misrepresents her record on the Bridge to Nowhere for 11th time.

Granted, McCain still suffers from his POW injuries and that those injuries bother him when he does certain activities. But, that dog won't hunt in excusing why he has remained so computer illiterate for uhh... 26 years?

If he can learn how to do it now, while he still has his same injuries, why couldn't he have learned it anytime in the last 20 some years?

Reason: He didn't want to. John McCain is intellectually lazy. God, he's hardly studied the real issues of this campaign. He constantly mixed up Shiites and Sunnis, while in Iraq. He acted like he had alzheimers when fumbling over where he thought Spain was located on the globe. He thinks he can fire the SEC chairman when he can't. He doesn't know a thing about the economy and we need someone in the Whitehouse with a brain, for a change. This economy mess will be around for awhile and have long tentacles into many other areas. He graduated in the bottom 1% of his Naval class. Actually, he finished 894 out of 899! Yeah, I want THAT guy as my President.

McCain simply does not have the intellect or temperment to handle these challenges. DO you really want another mental midget like Bush running our country for the next 4 years with all the challenges that we face? I mean, really?

Bush got us into this economic hole, in I think 2005, when he and his Repub cronies (remember they controlled Congress for Bush's first 6 years!) stripped all the regulations that made it a crime for banks to grant loans to people who they knew didn't truly qualify for a home loan and couldn't afford one either! McCain would pull the cover over that hole and bury all of us financially! But, you can be sure his rich pals would make millings off our misery.

Sir Loin, I have just one question for you...

If McCain has and had so much pain and discomfort due to his POW injuries, just how did he manage to pass his flight test and regain his flight status?

Clearly it really bugs you that I posted FactCheck.org’s review of the Obama ad you find to be gospel and relevant. Chuckle. They do a very good job of looking at all sides and all claims, which why they have a very good reputation and why I knew that it would only be a matter of time until this latest Obama ad would be examined.

I awaited the info and posted it. But I did bother to point out just how stupid and desperate some people are to argue over completely inconsequential nonsense that won’t matter a whit to the majority of people casting their votes. Now maybe this is a hot button issue for you, but it sure aint for me and many others.

You suffering from the notion that everything in this thread is presented for and directed at little old you?

More importantly do you have something rational to say about the FactCheck.org info? Well let me read on and see………..

I actually find the sad sacks that argue and get frothy only about one “side” to be the annoying ones. I’ve observed that both campaigns are engaged in dishonesty, not so you
.

Oh yeah I see that rational discourse is no longer an option for you regarding this oh so important hot button issue!
Way to miss out on the answers to your questions, I just posted them and you managed to "read" them and come up with this...........post.

So you are now really reaching……………………… .

I’d point out some medical realities to you, particularly with regard to what happens to old injuries over time and as one ages……..but I think it would be a waste of time. You will be as comfortable ignoring those as you were ignoring every other rational point prior to now. Just to post more material similar this irrational and meandering screed.

Re: McCain doesn't do email ad (But Lerxst Does!)

I noticed a funny thing as I was reading through this and other threads about how stupid and unworthy of fill in the blank John McCain and Sarah Palin are for not being hip wit the modern world. Not down with even the latest “internet and email advances” and all that jazz. Then I noticed that a poster showed up to offer a really telling “thanks” to what can only be called an honest diatribe.

Law enforcement officer put his real name on the internet and then spent a number of years revealing tid bits about himself; apparently all while talking smack to many he did not agree with. And now here he is in a thread about the obsolescence of McCain and what again…was…..the relevance of this issue, Rush Fan?

Thank God you are not running for office?
