The Obama campaign's statement in response to the charges virtually confirmed it.

Obama’s national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said Taheri’s article bore “as much resemblance to the truth as a McCain campaign commercial.”

In fact, Obama had told the Iraqis that they should not rush through a “Strategic Framework Agreement” governing the future of US forces until after President George W. Bush leaves office, she said.

Which is exactly what Taheri wrote. Barack Obama went to Iraq and interfered with the diplomatic efforts of the elected United States government, in a war zone no less, by telling the Iraqis to stop negotiating with the President. How exactly does that make Taheri’s column untruthful?

Regardless of whether it's true or not, that article kind of highlights my point.

Once you start saying things like "confusion between the Status of Forces Agreement governing US military personnel and the Strategic Framework Agreement to settle the legal basis..." you've already lost 93% of the public. That other 7% probably doesn't care much.

If this turns out to be true, the GOP will need to find a way to package this for the masses.

How about this:

While claiming to push for the quickest possible troop withdrawal, Obama secretly tried to hijack official policy and prolong the war for the sake of his own political career.

You think something like that might work?

Or if that was too difficult for some to grasp maybe use a picture of Obama whispering to a nondescript or unidentifiable Iraqi official and posting the word, "SNEAKY" beneath it.

But what's so hard to understand about the original NY Post headline?

A new low.

From the article it states Obama was suggesting that Iraq not make agreements that would tie the hands of the next President. There is nothing in it about his political career, unless of course you assume Obama is going to be elected the next President.

Re: Obama-Biden Reservations Confirmed

Holt smokes...where to start?

Howzabout Reagan...

Project Censored 1987 - Story #16: REAGAN'S 1980 "OCTOBER SURPRISE" -- ARMS FOR HOSTAGES

Former Iranian President Bani-Sadr asserted that "the arms supply contract Iran signed with Israel in March 1981, less than two months after Reagan's inauguration, was the payoff for delaying the release of the American hostages until after the November 4, 1980 election."

Author Robert Parry has quite a lot of information regarding the original October Surprise.

On to the contention about Senators violating the Logan Act:

Would John McCain also fall into that category?

YouTube - Saakashvili: I Talk to McCain Several Times a Day

Consider that no less that three of McCain's campaign staffers have been in th eemploy of the Georgian government as lobbyists to McCain.

Who got Georgia into this? - Los Angeles Times

Asia Times Online :: Central Asian News and current affairs, Russia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan

McCain has been friends with Saakashvili for over a decade. Do you think I'm stupid enough to believe they've never talked shop about how America would support Georgia against Russia?

It would not be prudent for Obama to make a visit to Iraq as the Democratic nominee and not discuss the impending troop withdrawls. Of course he would discuss them, as has McCain. If McCain hasn't, he's stupid. It would be likewise imprudent for Obama to remain silent as plans were being made that would be prejudicial to his role as the potential President when those plans were to take place.

prrriiide,

I'm reposting this to save you the trouble of actually reading the whole thread.

The problem with what Obama did is twofold. First, Senator Obama has no authority to negotiate on behalf of the executive branch, which has sole authority to conduct foreign policy. Second and most important, Obama attempted to interfere against the interests of the United States. He can ask all the questions he wants, but when Obama started pressing Iraqi officials to stop negotiations with the executive branch — in other words, break one level of diplomatic contact and freeze a military alliance in time of war — that crossed a line and clearly violated the Logan Act. It also makes clear that Obama would do anything to get elected, even harm diplomatic relations between the US and an ally.

Even with the less-effective approach, though, the ad will at least put the issue in front of the American people. So far, the mainstream media seems more interested in Sarah Palin’s tanning bed than in a presidential candidate who tried to undermine US interests in a war zone for the sake of his own political career.

Compare and contrast that with what Reagan is alleged to have done.
