I think in his own quaint way, GWB said it best...

"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."...LOL
And from the song W bungled: "Meet the new boss, Same as the old boss"

I love how when Obama has a more policy-focused speech, it's all "meat & potatoes" and chock full of "substance." When it's McCain, it's bogged down with details and boring.

Now, I say I may end up voting for him because with his VP pick he's given me someone, thus far, that I like within the party and is reaffirming my hope that he's committed to at least pushing for a few things that are important to me, and because I do think he'll only go 1 term which sets up the candidacy for a person I think would be good for the Presidency, and I'm told I'm absurd.

So...vote for McCain/Palin, and I'm absurd. Don't vote for McCain/Palin, and I'm absurd. Gotta love it.
how about voting for someone because you think they are the best candidate who best matches your ideals and not be absurd?
Unless you think that McCain is going to be nothing other than a lame duck president who won't do any decision making and it will all be Palin, perhaps.
To which then, after all the heroism, patriotism, nation first, POW that McCain campaign (not palin campaign) has been chucking at the Obama camp for not being, then that really opens up a whole other can-o-worms doesn't it?

Barr I'm iffy on and need to look closer at, but in general I part with him on some significant things.

Out of the two major candidates, McCain matches more of my ideals far....FAR...more than Obama. Previously, there wasn't enough about his ticket to make me get over the things I disagreed with him about, nor had he truly convinced me he wasn't going to be "McCain 1.0" the moment he stepped foot into the white house, which would be even worse with a democrat controlled legislature.

Now I'm beginning to believe there's a weird McCain 1.5 that's most likely to be in there, and Palin's given me something on the ticket that helps me get over some of the things I disagree with him about (some of which I disagree with Obama even stronger about).

Its not enough where I can say "I'm voting McCain" yet, but its enough to once again giving him a legitimate look.

If you're in VA, you *really* need to vote. Isn't it predicted to be one of the swing states this year?

Absolutely. Virginia is one of the key battleground states this election. It ranks in the top 3 for sure.

If that's the case then, now we have McCain 1.0 - fiscally responsible, will not give in to intermixing of church and state, thinks Falwell and co are fringe lunatics, talks straight
McCain 2.0 - aka Bush 3; and McCain 1.5..... no idea who that is yet.
But what I can tell from the 3 different versions seems to be that McCain will not be someone that you will be sure of just who he is.

The one sure thing is that we will have a Democratic controlled congress.

If Obama is elected. the checks and balances of the 3 branch system of government will be impaired. Obama, rated the most liberal senator in the Senate, will approve anything Congress passes on to him for approval. This will balloon spending, give legislation towards full abortion on demand, raise taxes on a whim, etc.

If McCain is elected, it keeps Congress in check (granted, McCain is no Goldwater - but still) from running wild on liberal agenda to weaken America.

Check the thread specifically about McCain's speech, I give a brief quick explanation of what I meant by "McCain 1.5".

And yes, I do agree with your final assertion. It still puts me off on him a good bit. However, with Obama, I do think I know what I'll get, and I know I don't like it.

But like in 1993 when the nation also faced then record deficits, we need a party with power to break the gridlock. In 1993 the Dems passed (barely) the tax increase that drove down the deficits and gave the govt is first surplus in decades. We need a Govt that can change the status quo.
