Re: Bill Clinton's speech was amazing, IMO!

Yes, Clinton's speech was amazing. He never ceases to amaze me as he lies so easily, and with conviction.

He started off praising Hillary's campaign and being disappointed in her failure to clinch the nomination. He then praises Obama for picking Biden, "knocking it out of the park" he said.

Interesting, Hillary had 18 million voters, Biden had what, 10k behind him?

He went on to tout Biden, saying "He loved him, and America will too".

Biden has been in the senate 36 years and America still doesn't know him, yea, he's a winner alright.

Then the best part of Clintons speech, his self admiration, and him reflecting back on his tenure in the White House, only he forgot what most of us remembered.

Talk to a liberal about Clinton, they get all warm and fuzzy, that gleam in their eye, and they'll tell you what a great President he was.

He said Bill Clinton was one of the smartest men he'd ever met, and that as a President he asked questions and knew facts and figures other Presidents didn't...
Focusing solely on President Clinton's tenure in office, it should be noted that when President Clinton took office and faced the reality that an ideological approach would not lead to concrete results, he adopted an increasingly pragmatic, results-oriented approach. To his credit, he embraced NAFTA, strengthened U.S. ties to an emerging China, and successfully advocated permanent normalized trade relations with China. He signed welfare reform legislation. With Robert Rubin and later Larry Summers at the helm of the Treasury Department, he and Congress forged budget compromises, albeit after a period of confrontation, that saw budget deficits give way to surpluses. All of those are important and beneficial contributions.

I do believe his foreign policy tended to be somewhat heavy on the idealistic side, in part, on account of his having an abundance of confidence that several of his problematic interlocutors would demonstrate the same kind of good faith he possessed. The 1994 Agreed Framework with North Korea was light on the verification side, even as North Korea had a history of violating past agreements and engaging in repeated provocations. As testament to North Korea's tendencies, North Korea is backtracking on its most recent commitments concerning its nuclear program. President Clinton also placed disproportionate faith in the idea that Yasser Arafat would transform himself from implacable guerrilla into a peacemaker. Arafat did not. In President Clinton's autobiography, the former President regrets the decision to spend the closing days of his Administration trying to get Arafat to embrace peace. In hindsight, he would have preferred devoting that time to trying to address North Korea's rising challenge. He deserves a degree of credit for helping sustain NATO in the early post-Cold War years, as the trans-Atlantic relationships are vitally important to the United States.

I think Bill Clinton was as phoney as usual.

By far the most important factor in the surpluses was the tax increase in 1993 that increase the top rate from 31 to 40%. That was no compromise; the Republicans would not budge an inch on taxes (apparently preferring the record $340 billion deficit at the time), and voted against it right down the line. The tax package passed the Senate only with Gore's pro tem vote.

The Dems paid for that bit of political courage, which was a big reason they lost control of the congress the following year. The pass the buck generation proved it wanted its tax cuts, and screw the next generation inhereting trillions in debt that resulted. It found Republicans willing to oblige.

Re: Bill Clinton's speech was amazing, IMO!

I also thought his speech was awesome. He has a gift with words. My question is, was he lying over the last year or is he lying now? Bill Clinton has said the same things that he is now blasting the Republicans for saying.

Either he was lying when he said these things or he lied last night. It has to be one or the other. If he simply made a mistake over the last year then he should have said so.

Ya'll can call it "P-O-L-I-T-I-C-S" all you want but I was raised to call a lie, a lie. My parents raised us not to trust anyone who tells bold faced lies and we were taught that anyone who will trust a liar is a fool.

In Bill Clinton's own words:

Bill Clinton Questions Obama’s Experience - The Caucus Blog - NYTimes.com

Bill Clinton Questions Obama’s Experience
Former President Bill Clinton showed his singular ability to diminish his wife’s presidential rivals when, in a television interview, he said that Senator Barack Obama had about as much experience as Mr. Clinton did in 1988 — the year Mr. Clinton decided not to run for the presidency.

Bill Clinton: Older voters too savvy to fall for Obama - 2008 Presidential Campaign Blog - Political Intelligence - Boston.com

Bill Clinton: Older voters too savvy to fall for Obama
Older voters gravitate to Hillary Clinton because they're too wise to be fooled by Barack Obama's rhetoric, former president Bill Clinton told Pennsylvania voters today.

Bill Clinton Suggests Obama Not Ready

Bill Clinton Suggests Obama Not Ready
In a surprisingly frank interview with Charlie Rose on his PBS show late Friday night, former President Bill Clinton declared that his wife was not only far better prepared to be president than her chief rival Sen. Barack Obama -- "it's not even close" -- but that voters who disagreed would be taking a "risk" if they picked the latter.

Repeatedly dismissive of Obama -- which could come back to haunt the Clinton campaign -- the former president at one point said that voters were, of course, free to pick someone with little experience, even "a gifted television commentator" who would have just "one year less" experience in national service than Obama. He had earlier pointed out that Obama had started to run for president just one year into his first term in the U.S. Senate.

He felt intellectually engaged by Bill like no other president. And I agree with him. I watched him campaign for Hillary on the campaign trail on CSPAN. He never needed a teleprompter, never needed notes, and he'd stand up there and just rattle off an impressive survey of world and domestic affairs, statistics and all. With perfect charm and leadership. I'll take that any day over McCain.
You would vote for Clinton? Clinton lied to a grand jury, and it was right to impeach him. He should have been convicted for his crime. I would never vote for Clinton, especially in light of his propensity to lie.

I saw some of John Kerry's speech, which I thought was great as well. He had some fantastic zingers in there.

I haven't seen Biden's speech yet, but I will today.

Bill Clinton, you have restored my respect for you! Bravo!
I thought "Slick Willie" made a great speech......To bad he did not mean a word of it..........
