Re: Only 25 % high school graduation rate in Detroit, worst in nation.

What we have are a lot of people too uneducated to vote intelligently, and OTOH a lot of people educated enough to see through the charade and realize we have a choice of a pathetic old has been candidate or a young one with fresh, new ideas that might just be a flippin' disaster.
Maybe ignorance really is bliss?

Perhaps he wanted them spelled that way? I have a sister who is constantly mistaken for a boy because her name is spelled Carey. She was named after my grandmother and my mother wanted the name to be spelled the same way. Although, it turns out to be an advantage for her as far as telemarketers go, because they always ask to speak to the guy Carey, so we just tell them sorry no Mr. Carey ---- here. It isn't wrong for someone to spell a name differently than the normal spelling.

Well, perhaps others want their children's names spelled Shaniqua, Taliqua, and Mohammed, and his best policy would be to just shut his senile, hypocritical old gob.

What exactly is senile about critisizing deadbeat dads who flee the scene, apathetic parenting, rampant school drop-outs, gross careless spending, and insisting that these people take a responsible approach to the problem instead of lazily blaming the white people? How is that not productive, in terms of their well-being? Is it because it could affect the size of their next check from the government?

I get the impression that black activists like Al Sharpton like to see "his people" down and oppressed, as it gives him and others like him a group of people to "represent". He is a self appointed saviour to them, but really a wolf in sheeps clothing. His primary interest is selfish, or he would be doing much of the kind of preaching that Bill Cosby does.
Mr. Cosby didn't start out as a rich educated man, he worked at it.
He was even a dropout who struggled over a long period of time before he got where he is. He knows that you don't get an education by just attending school. If that were so, some of my siblings wouldn't be so poor and ignorant, because they attended....but put very little effort into the process of getting an education.
Being uneducated is a handicap. But MOST of our uneducated kids are that way by choice. They aren't making smart choices, for sure, but how does anyone convince them of that?
There are old jokes around about kids thinking they know everything, but in my case, I was convinced I knew almost nothing and went about trying to fix that. That was my advantage over my siblings....

Cosby is a beacon of hope for the future of education. I have studied him a bit and know some of his solutions.

One is a universal pre-kindergarten program so that every child aged 3, 4 and 5 would have access to full day-care and prepare them for the primary schools.

Another is free education, from pre-kindergarten to college. This would include the government paying for college for our American young people.

Another is requiring uniforms in schools.

Another is getting the parents more involved.

What do you people think of these ideas?

Naturally, I agree with Cosby - he hit the mark dead on. The heroes of African-American culture went from this...

What do you people think of these ideas?
I think these are great ideas. My daughter was part of a government program that offered services to children under 3 who have special needs.(she was premature). Services such as physical therapy, speech therapy, vision therapy, etc. are offered free of charge. By the way our republican governor wanted to cut this program. After the age of 3 the children are the responsibility of the public school system. We received free preschool for two years. It would be great if these programs were offered to all students.

I would also like to see parent more involved in a positive. Too many parents see school as a babysitting service. They don't want to be bothered by what happens at school.

Just because whites are buying most of the albums doesn't mean blacks aren't consuming it more predominantly through other mediums such as radio and television. Gangster rappers are exercising a great deal of influence on both white and black culture; both for the worse.

I enjoy gangster rap and most rap in general but what seperates me from teenaged males is that I consider it an amusing novelty while they view it as something to emulate. People who take gangster rap seriously are either incredibly stupid or terribly immature and it just so happens the vast majority of teenagers, black and white, are exactly that. It's a failure of parenting and community and it's no coincidence that the demographic with the most broken homes and weakest communal infrastrcutures (blacks) would fall victim to the destructive influence of gangster rappers. In the absence of strong male role models teenagers will seek them out and more often than not a gangster rapper is there to fill the void.
